Like father, like sons, and daughter. In 1936 Harpo Marx married actress Susan Fleming and, by all accounts, they were very happy till the day he died in 1964.
Sadly, they were unable to have children of their own so they adopted four. Well into their adulthood all four children told of how happy they were in a household that Harpo created to spread happiness. He was once asked by George Burns how many children he wanted to adopt. His answer was priceless. "I’d like to adopt as many children as I have windows in my house. So when I leave for work, I want a kid in every window, waving goodbye."
It was said that Harpo didn’t have a cruel or selfish streak in his nature, and he was usually recalled with great fondness by everyone who knew him. Groucho wrote, Groucho and Me (1954), ’Harpo was the solid man in the family. He inherited all of my mother’s good qualities – kindness, understanding, and friendliness. I inherited what was left.’

Cary Grant and Loretta Young put on an ice skating show in “The Bishop's Wife” (1947). David Niven was originally cast as the angel, Dana Andrews as the bishop, and Teresa Wright as his wife. However, Wright had to drop out due to pregnancy and Andrews was lent to RKO in order to obtain the services of Loretta Young, who producer Sam Goldwyn desperately wanted in the movie. Director Henry Koster then brought in Cary Grant, who asked to play the angel. A better comedian than Niven, as well as a bigger star, he got the part. Niven was furious, as he knew the angel would steal the film. Worse, in some U.S. states, the film was retitled “Cary and the Bishop's Wife”, with a black text box posing the question “Have you heard about Cary and the Bishop’s wife?”in areas that kept the original title. Despite all of this, the film was a smash hit and should be seen at least once.

Three days took six legends, but decades of memories remain 🕊️
Between August 24 and 26, entertainment said goodbye to names whose work reached completely different generations.
Dolly Parton — A country music giant whose Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You became standards, while her philanthropy made her legacy much bigger than music.
Peter Cullen — For more than 40 years, his unmistakable voice gave Optimus Prime his strength, dignity and humanity. He was also beloved as Eeyore.
Tim Curry — Frank-N-Furter, Pennywise, Wadsworth, Nigel Thornberry and countless others. Few performers could be this funny, strange and terrifying across the same career.
Jaye P. Morgan — A successful singer who later became one of television’s most memorable personalities as a regular judge on The Gong Show.
Samuel Monroe Jr. — A familiar face from ’90s Black cinema through Menace II Society, Tales from the Hood, Set It Off and The Players Club.
Debbie “Storm” Clark — One of the unforgettable competitors who helped make American Gladiators larger than life for ’90s audiences.
A song. A voice. A character. A movie. A childhood memory.
That’s how people remain long after the dates beside their names stop changing.
Gone in the past three days, but permanently written into the things generations still love. ❤️

On this day in 1929, The Silly Symphony cartoon The Skeleton Dance was released Directed by Ub Iwerks, it is the very first of the Silly Symphony series. The short is animated by Walt, his brother Roy, Ub Iwerks, Wilfred Jackson, and a very young Les Clark who would go on to become one of Walt's Nine Old Men. Hard to believe that this is almost 100 years old.

Vera-Ellen, the forgotten Dance Icon
Donald O’Connor’s dance routines were often comic, but this ardent duet with Vera-Ellen, from “Call Me Madam” (1953), is pure romance. A former ballerina, Vera-Ellen seems to transform into Terpsichore as she swirls across the set. Often overlooked in favour of Cyd Charisse, her dancing is both joyous and timeless.
