Tony Martin (1942–2013) was a Trinidad and Tobago-born scholar and professor of Africana Studies who taught at Wellesley College in Massachusetts from 1973 until his retirement in 2007, spanning 34 years at the institution. He joined as an associate professor and became a founding member and chair of the college's Africana Studies Department, achieving tenure in 1975 and promotion to full professor in 1979. A prolific author of over ten books and numerous articles, particularly on Marcus Garvey, Pan-Africanism, and African-Caribbean history, Martin was a dedicated Garveyite and influential figure in Black studies, though his work sometimes sparked controversy.
Tony passed away January 2013 in Trinidad at age 70, and is remembered as Professor Emeritus of Africana Studies at Wellesley.
