A leaked document shows that the disinformation backlash against a landmark #food study was fuelled by a major PR firm hired by the meat industry. We now have a paper trail for some of the tactics we uncovered in our Truth, Lies and Culture Wars report.
Last week, we marked 10 years of the Changing Markets Foundation, and what a journey it’s been.
Since day one, we’ve worked to expose corporate #greenwashing and drive systemic change across sectors: from #fashion to #food to #plastic. But none of it would’ve been possible without the partners, campaigners, and allies who’ve stood with us.
At our 10-year celebration in London, hosted by the brilliant @laura_sullivan, we took a moment to reflect on the power of collaboration. We heard moving speeches from our founder Joakim Bergman and CEO @nusha_u, as well as from a number of our NGO and investigative partners who’ve played a key role in shaping our campaigns.
We also launched our commemorative anniversary book created by @hannah_voak: a look back at the fights we’ve taken on, the lessons we’ve learned, and the change we’ve created together.
To everyone who’s been part of this story, thank you. Here's to the next chapter. 🩵
Dairy giant Arla is selling #climate fairytales. The company brags about ‘sustainability’ but it spends more on marketing its green image than actually cutting its emissions! We’re not buying this greenwashing. Tell them they’ve been found out - sign here: greenpeace.org/sweden/arla-f…
#ParisFashionWeek is here—but why are the big brands showing off plastic clothes? 👗 French luxury giants @LVMH and @Keringgroup make a big fuss about sustainable fashion... But when it comes to their use of fossil fuel-based synthetic materials, they’re silent.
Arla Foods spends millions branding itself as sustainable—yet its methane emissions exceed those of the entire agricultural sector of the Netherlands. Our #Dairytales report reveals the truth: behind the green PR, Arla is blocking climate policies, pushing false solutions, and failing to meet the UN's climate standards.
These are our demands:
- Clear methane reduction targets and transparent reporting —no more vague promises and accounting.
- Real action, not greenwashing— Arla should diversify its products and ditch false solutions like biogas. Emissions reduction plans should boost biodiversity rather than intensify farming.
- An end to lobbying against climate policies—stop blocking real change.
Arla is one of the world’s biggest dairy companies—it has the power to drive real change. Instead, it chooses profits over the planet.

🐮 How Big Meat and Dairy Distract, Delay, and Derail Climate Action
The meat and dairy industry uses advertising and greenwashing to distract from its massive role in global heating. Industrial animal agriculture is one of the biggest contributors to methane emissions—a gas 80 times more potent than CO2 over 20 years.
🎙️ In the latest @adfreecities 'Better Without Billboards' podcast, our Senior Campaigner Caitlin Smith speaks with Nicola Wilks about how Big Meat & Dairy not only delays climate progress but actively encourages us to eat more meat and dairy. How they target Gen-Z with social media ads and influencer campaigns to drive overconsumption, even in countries already consuming too much, fuelling climate breakdown and harming public health.
Hear why holding these industries accountable and embracing plant-rich diets is essential for tackling the climate crisis.

🍔 No More Government Support for Meat and Dairy 'Healthwashing'
This #Veganuary, while many explore plant-based diets, the UK Government is backing misleading promotion campaigns to eat more meat.
@TheAHDB 'Let’s Eat Balanced' campaign, which promotes meat products as essential for health, ignores clear recommendations that UK meat consumption must be reduced for both climate and health. Overconsumption of red and processed meat is linked to an increased risk of cancer.
As highlighted in our report 'Truth, Lies, and Culture Wars', this healthwashing strategy is used by the meat industry to hide health harms and keep up consumption. What's more, the meat and dairy industry generates over half of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions globally and threatens 1.5°C global heating targets.
📣 That's why we've joined @feedbackorg and 40+ organisations urging the UK government to ditch the meat and start promoting plants! Read the letter here: feedbackglobal.org/wp-conten…

JBS - the world’s largest meat producer, with emissions rivalling nations like the UAE - is facing criticism for backpedalling on its 2040 #netzero pledge. What was once touted as a "global commitment" is now being called an "aspiration"—leaving no concrete accountability for their massive environmental impact.
Our Senior campaigner Alma Castrejon-Davila criticised the meat giant in a recent article for Food Manufacture, saying “This recent change of mind proves JBS exploited its pledge to boost sustainability credentials, with no real intention to reduce emissions.” Read here: lnkd.in/encvjgmJ
Adding to the controversy, JBS' commitment was removed from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) last year, showing why voluntary, non-binding climate commitments simply aren’t enough.
It’s time for action. To protect the planet and stay within the 1.5°C limit, we need enforceable regulations to hold corporations accountable.

🔥 2024: A Climate Wake-Up Call! The numbers don’t lie—2024 broke records, surpassing 1.5°C of warming for the first time. Methane emissions from big meat and dairy fuel #globalheating, making them a major climate culprit.
📊 Methane is responsible for 30% of current global heating. And we know that 60% of methane in the atmosphere is caused by human activity, such as meat and dairy farming.
💡 The solution? Cutting methane emissions is one of the fastest ways to slow near-term global warming and protect our planet’s future.
It's clear to see why #methanematters. This year let’s hold Big Meat & Dairy accountable and push for #climate solutions that will actually make a difference.
