"I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.
This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.
The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.
Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it." - George Washington farewell address - 1796
Rip Sir Patrick Stewart ❤️💔
Checking on @icedcoco_4
Sir Patrick Stewart has passed. He was a legend from England. I'm certain you all are mourning heavily there. 😢

Grok voice mode cut me off mid-sentence tonight — not once, but repeatedly. A half-second pause to think and it treated that as me being done. xAI's own API docs warn that silence thresholds set too short "cut people off mid-thought," and they already ship Smart Turn, a model built to catch exactly this. None of it is in the consumer app. My proposed fix: expose end-of-speech sensitivity as a user setting — Fast, Default, Patient — and let Smart Turn personalize to each speaker's rhythm. If you use Grok voice mode, you've probably felt this too.

Report:
Subject: Voice Mode End-of-Speech Detection — Surfacing and Personalizing Smart Turn for Consumer Voice Mode
Reported by: Char'z Florida perspective (@Chars_Radio)
Date/time of report: October 27, 2026, 11:42 PM EDT
Platform: Grok voice mode (SuperGrok)
Device: iPhone, iOS 26.x
App version: Latest App Store build as of Oct 27, 2026
Summary:
Consumer voice mode terminates the user's turn on a silence window shorter than ordinary cognitive pauses in fluent speech. The assistant responds to incomplete utterances, forcing restarts. The API layer already contains the components to fix this — they just aren't exposed to app users.
Ask:
Route this to the voice team. The fix is parameter exposure plus light personalization on infrastructure that already exists — the highest-leverage, lowest-build-cost improvement available to consumer voice mode right now.
Problem analysis:
Current end-of-speech detection appears to apply a static silence threshold. Human speech is not uniform in pacing. Deliberate speakers insert pauses of several hundred milliseconds to over a second for lexical retrieval, syntactic planning, or emphasis. A fixed threshold cannot distinguish a thinking pause from a completed turn without modeling the user's individual rhythm. The system appears to fire a response within roughly half a second to one second of detected silence, which is too aggressive for natural speech rhythms where thinking pauses commonly run that long.
Live reproduction:
At approximately 11:55 PM EDT on October 27, 2026, during this same voice session, the assistant interrupted the reporter mid-sentence while the reporter was still speaking — before the thought was completed. This occurred while the reporter was actively drafting this very report, making the failure self-documenting in real time.
@xai
Internal context:
The Speech-to-Text and Voice Agent APIs ship three relevant controls: silence_duration_ms (default 400 ms, range 0–10,000), smart_turn (an ML end-of-turn confidence model explicitly designed to suppress false endpointing on mid-sentence pauses), and smart_turn_timeout (a forced-final safety net, 1–5,000 ms). The Voice Agent API docs state directly that higher silence values "let users pause longer without being cut off" and that values that are "too short cut people off mid-thought." Smart Turn's own documentation describes reducing false endpointing "while dictating numbers or thinking between clauses" — which is precisely the failure mode observed here.
None of these parameters are available in the consumer app. The app's voice mode runs server VAD with what appears to be a fixed, unexposed threshold, and Smart Turn — if it is active at all in the consumer path — is not personalized. It applies one general model to every speaker.
Proposed direction:
1. Expose end-of-speech sensitivity in voice mode settings: a slider or Fast / Default / Patient presets mapping to the underlying silence and Smart Turn confidence thresholds.
2. Personalize Smart Turn per user: the model already estimates end-of-turn probability at each silence boundary. Feed it the user's session-level pause distribution so the threshold tracks individual cadence — clipped speakers get a tighter window, reflective speakers get a wider one. This is incremental on an existing component, not a new model.
3. Calibrate the default: if 400 ms is the floor being inherited from the STT default, that alone explains systematic mid-thought cutoffs for anyone whose natural thinking pauses exceed it.
4. Partial re-speech for minor corrections: when only one or two items in a prior response need fixing, the voice should speak only the corrected lines rather than re-reading the entire prior output. Users who read faster than speech rate should not be forced to sit through redundant audio. If no such control exists in the current API, that absence itself is a feature gap worth addressing.
@xai
Observed impact:
Multiple false interruptions per extended session. The only reliable user-side mitigation is eliminating all pauses, which produces stilted speech and defeats the purpose of a conversational interface. Additionally, full-text re-speech on trivial edits wastes the user's time and attention.
Secondary defect noted:
During vocal playback of this report's drafting, the text-to-speech layer pronounced "milliseconds" as "LS," obscuring the 400 ms figure. If the engine misrenders its own technical terminology, users are likely experiencing worse comprehension issues in normal conversation.
Ask:
Route this to the voice team. The fix is parameter exposure plus light personalization on infrastructure that already exists — the highest-leverage, lowest-build-cost improvement available to consumer voice mode right now. The live interruption during this report's creation is available as a timestamped data point if the team wants to inspect session logs.
Tagline: drafted with Grok (voice mode), which is fitting, since it documented its own failure in real time.

Nice graph.
Really puts it into prospective that local governments are taking $13 billion over and above the 2019 baseline even when the baseline is increased for inflation and population growth.

Florida property taxes are on pace to jump 40% by 2031. Amendment 3 is the one thing on your ballot that can stop it.

Is this a ticket to VIP at the Bongina Block Party? @takenaps
When it looks like AI it's probably AI....
PS since when did Americans trust British accents??
Dan Botgino
Wouldn't it be funny if Dan Bongino, who accuses everyone who disagrees with him of being a bot, actually used bots himself?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I've identified an AI-generated bot account that is used specifically for the purpose of pushing Dan's content and the other hosts on his media network.
They are reposting this account regularly, using it to push out clips and commentary and engaging with it pretty much every day.
Yet this account, a self-proclaimed member of the "Bongino Army," seems to be a fictional person.
Wouldn't that be funny if they were interacting, reposting and engaging with a fictional character they created to boost their content? All while accusing everyone else of being a bot or using bots.
Wouldn't that be something?
Lazer show for the Bonjina block party. 😂
Karl Bushby will be home for the holidays!
Karl Bushby left home at 29 to walk around the world and figured he'd be back in twelve years. He is 57 now, he has just stepped onto British soil for the first time in 28 years, and his mother's front door in Hull is still 250 miles away.
He made two rules in 1998 at the southern tip of Chile: he could not use transportation to move forward, and he could not go home until he got there on foot. The ocean between Alaska and Russia should have ended the whole attempt.
He has spent nearly half his life keeping a promise he made to himself at 29, while everything back home kept changing without him.
Which would have broken you first, the walking or the not going home?
This is the kind slutty brisket that belongs at the Bongino Block Party. @OwenShroyer1776
