It has been over 10 years since the former Lincoln Yards site was left vacant. Today we are succeeding where previous administrations failed, creating thousands of new homes, good paying jobs, and accessible public spaces along Chicago’s riverfront.

Chicagoans deserve their fair share of safe communities, mental health resources, well-funded schools, and childcare support. To deliver, we're asking big corporations to pay their fair share in taxes.

The warmest welcome (also, BEAR DOWN)
Landed in Chicago and less than 2 minutes into my Uber, I’m getting stories about “da Coach,” and where my driver was when the ‘85 Bears won the Super Bowl. I love this town.

THE FACTS: The Personal Property Lease Transaction Tax (PPLT) is a sustainable, structural revenue paid primarily by the largest big tech corporations, with a far smaller burden on small businesses and independent operators. ▪️ Fortune 500 companies and large corporations generate 77% of PPLT revenue, the biggest remitters are global big tech giants including Amazon and Google. ▪️Just 8% of registered payers account for 76% of all PPLT revenue, with nearly 80% coming from cloud computing and IT services. ▪️In recent years the tech-industry has made up a larger and larger share of PPLT revenue, with companies like Microsoft and Amazon surpassing rental companies like Enterprise as the largest payers of PPLT. ▪️Meanwhile, Trump’s cuts are serving up $651B in federal tax breaks for big tech companies over the next 10 years.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Michelle Morales, a beloved public servant, educator, organizer, and fierce advocate for justice who dedicated her life to the people of Chicago. Michelle was rooted in Chicago’s Puerto Rican community, where she spent decades organizing for educational justice, public health access, and against displacement and gentrification. She believed deeply in the dignity and self-determination of her community and in the power of people to challenge injustice. From teaching in Humboldt Park and advocating for students in alternative schools to leading Mikva Challenge Illinois and Woods Fund Chicago, Michelle carried that commitment to young people, families, and communities throughout her career. I was grateful to have Michelle serve as co-chair of our transition committee and to later appoint her to the Chicago Board of Education. I valued her counsel, her conviction, and the perspective she brought from decades of experience. My prayers are with her loved ones. May she rest in power and in peace. – at Chicago, IL

My administration will stop at nothing to protect Black Chicagoans at risk of losing their homes, keeping long-time residents rooted in the communities they helped build. We won $500,000 from bus companies who profited off the pain of the migrant mission and are passing that off as property tax relief to communities that have faced historic disinvestment, showing that City Government can do more than just react during a crisis. We are using every tool available to us to hold bad actors accountable, recover resources, and invest those dollars into our communities.

Actually, this is a decrease from the current $1,000 dollar fee.
Five hundred fucking dollars fee to register with the City of Chicago to be a home based business is ACTUALLY in Mayor Johnson's 2027 budget. Seriously, GTFO.
