Cowherd does a great job of explaining what Ryan Poles alluded to in his presser today following the Bears’ acquisition of star DT Jeffery Simmons. the past 7 straight Super Bowl Champions have featured an elite DT, & 8 out of the past 10 have featured one. Tom Brady was the only QB that was able to overcome that pocket disruption, where QBs aren’t able to step up past the EDGE rushers, & are forced to step up into the DT. — DT that can stop the run game — DT that can collapse the pocket — DT that can get pressure up the middle SEA [Leonard Williams] PHI [Jalen Carter & Jordan Davis] KC — 2x [Chris Jones] LAR [Aaron Donald] TB [Vita Vea] KC [Chris Jones] NE [N/A] PHI [Fletcher Cox] NE [N/A] it took the best QB of all time in Tom Brady to overcome an NFL record performance from prime Grady Jarrett, & then Aaron Donald, & Chris Jones in those 3 Super Bowls, proving that you need that elite DT play to make it to the show. Bears did an excellent job acquiring a much-needed difference maker at a position that is very difficult to find one at. the draft doesn’t offer more than about 1, every other year, & the elite ones are almost never available.

me trying to talk about football on this app.
What’s a polite way to tell someone, “I’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?

get a load of this dipshit.
OMG. This is a terrible trade for the Bears. Why do teams do this? DT is not a premium position even. Plus he's 29 and he's making $100 million guaranteed through 2028. Where is the surplus value here. A+ for the Titans; D-minus for the Bears.

it sickens me how much less people love football than me. Q needs a new contract. Nelson will most likely negotiate a deal to stay with the Seahawks, but essentially, the trade value for Simmons lies in the fact that his deal is secured, with much of the bonus already paid.
Jeffery Simmons is about 1.5 years younger than Quenton Nelson. Simmons goes for two 1s and a 4 Nelson goes for a 3 and a 5 I’m all ears if someone believes those values make sense! On the surface, I’ll take the value with the Nelson deal.

exactly what I was suggesting when I wrote this. I didn’t realize just how big the incoming discount would be for Simmons, with how much the Titans already paid via bonus. easily makes that future 2nd I suggested becoming a future 1st more understandable.

🔷 Jeffery Simmons — I think this is the Bears’ most likely target, & probably the best route for them to pursue. the Bears are getting an above-expected impact on rushing the passer from their current EDGE platoon, but their run defense is where they are most vulnerable to being exposed. Simmons offers a boost to both aspects of DL duties. with him already receiving his extension, they don’t have to make him the highest paid at his position, on top of paying draft capital to acquire him. he’d be an addition for now & the future, as he’s secured to a deal the team controls, with potential for them to sign a reworked deal upon acquisition to restructure the deal however the organization sees best fit. with the Bears’ draft pick expected to be late, it may take a 1st, & 3rd OR a future 2nd, & I’d be comfortable with that. with a slight rework of the deal to front-load the contract, & a ton of cap room expected next year, his deal wouldn’t interfere with the looming extensions for the team’s young offensive core.

added value from the incoming contract.
Because the Titans just extended Jeffery Simmons, and the bonus money is paid, a team-friendly deal goes with him to Chicago ... • $7.94 million for the rest of 2026. • $26.95 million in cash for 2027. • Signed through 2030 for a total $124.7 million.

2 late 1st round picks trumps having to give up a proven player, in my opinion. the value of 2 late firsts equates to around the 10th overall pick. not to mention the fact that the incoming contract is very team-friendly for the Bears, due to Titans paying his bonus, already.
Jeffery Simmons went for: Two 1sts & 4th Micah Parsons went for: Kenny Clark + Two 1sts Myles Garrett went for: Jared Verse + 1st + 2nd + 3rd Sauce Gardner went for: Adonai Mitchell + Two 1sts

by the way, since 95% of football X has completely forgotten or changed the definition of “cope” — this is what coping looks like.
No one's questioning whether Jeffery Simmons is a great player. But if you're the Packers, Vikings, Lions: Do you more dread facing the All-Pro DT on the field, or do you more love that the Bears are surrendering two firsts (and 4th/5th swap) for a 29-year-old interior DL?

Montez Sweat finally gets another DL to help take away some of the double teams. we could see the best production from him since he got here. added boost from playing next to your brother. funny that Bradbury & Thuney are playing next to each other, & now Sweat with Simmons.

the Jets should stipulate that the original scouting departments have to make the picks for them to ensure they actually hold value.
If the NFL draft were held today, the New York Jets currently would hold the 6th, 9th and 11th overall selections.

the run defense just got a giant boost, as well. it was their most vulnerable area to being exposed. also, helps keep Kyler in coverage more, which is huge.
Dennis Allen has relied heavily on the blitz to generate interior pressure for the #Bears on passing downs Gonna be a lot easier to wreak havoc up the middle when you have All-Pro Jeffery Simmons creating chaos every down
