My heart is breaking for the people of Lewiston who were targeted tonight by a dangerous gunman. Maine is one big neighborhood & tomorrow we will all learn that someone we know has been affected by this tragedy.

Despite the wintery landscape in central Minnesota, yesterday I saw my first male Red-winged Blackbird of the season. A few years ago, I took this image of large flock of redwings as they migrated northward. Males travel first, followed by females a few weeks later.
