Great workplaces are built when people from all corners of an organization see themselves as equal leaders. Our very own civilian member and Founder of Help Me Bury Cancer, Mike Duhacek, is a shining example of this. Members from across our service are proud to support Mike, who has created and spearheaded The Unbreakable Link - a seven day, 168 consecutive hour walk/run in support of Cops for Cancer, a partnership between first responders and the Canadian Cancer Society that supports children with cancer and their families. Over the next seven days, we are sending a clear message to families in Halton and beyond that are impacted by childhood cancer: you are not alone.

It is created and spearheaded by Mike Duhacek, an HRPS civilian member and Founder of Help Me Bury Cancer. Being part of a community means getting people through their darkest days. During his brave battle against leukaemia, Zach Gibson served as our Chief for the Day in 2019. Today, our members were honoured to carry on his legacy by facing off against the Milton Winterhawks as part of the Zach Strong: Hockey vs Cancer memorial tournament, raising funds to support paediatric cancer research and families impacted by the disease. Zach’s mother Julie said: “Zach faced so much with a quiet strength that continues to inspire those who knew and loved him. We so deeply miss his big bear hugs and his beautiful smile.” “Sergeant Ron Ferlin was the liaison at that time and he couldn't have been more empathetic and supportive to our family by making Zach feel special and by telling us that we were, from then on, a part of the HRPS family.” “The support of HRPS, the Milton Winterhawks, and our community has helped carry us through the most difficult time in our lives, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has stood by us over the years. Their continued support brings comfort and helps us find purpose in our loss, knowing that Zach’s life and legacy continue to make a difference.”

Give it up for the newest members of the Halton Regional Police Service. Before their fellow officers, family, and friends, fifteen constables, three civilians, and one special constable proudly swore an oath to always choose courage and compassion, to have their team's back, and to serve with heart - putting the community before themselves. Beaming with pride and eagerness, our new officers are ready to take their skills and training to the frontline. Welcome to the team. #ServeWithHeart #AnswerTheCall @OACPOfficial

Who are you when nobody is watching? What motivates you to come back for more, especially on the hard days? At every swearing in ceremony, I talk to our new officers and remind them that this job will challenge them, but it will also leave them deeply fulfilled knowing that what they do each day truly matters. Every shift, every call, and every interaction is a chance to change the world for the better. As their Chief of Police, it is my honour to welcome our new fifteen police constables, three civilians and one special constable to the team, and support them on this new and exciting journey ahead.

Meet Amit Sood - a member of our IT unit and Auxiliary Officer for the Halton Regional Police Service. "Being an Auxiliary Officer means more than just putting on a uniform or volunteering my time. It means giving back to the community I serve because I want to, not because I have to. It’s a rewarding opportunity to provide and support the residents of the Halton region – a place I’m proud to live in, raise a family, and call home." As we officially welcome the public into our new 1 District facility, we celebrate opening the door to new ways of thinking, new ways of connecting, and new ways of keeping our community safe. Consolidating 1 District Command and police operations to a single site sets us up to better serve the diverse urban and rural communities of Milton and Halton Hills, while providing a space for our members to collaborate and grow. Together, we are creating a stronger, more coordinated and responsive policing environment that helps us meet today’s public safety demands and prepares us for tomorrow’s challenges.

As we approach the October 7 anniversary, the Halton Regional Police Service will be enhancing police presence at identified places of worship and community gathering locations throughout the region. Currently, there is no reason for alarm, and we are not aware of any threats to public safety. I would like to reassure our community that we are taking proactive and precautionary steps to help ensure the continued safety and well-being of all members of our communities. These measures are part of our ongoing efforts to stay connected, visible, and engaged on the ground in the protection of all residents. At HRPS, we remain committed to working closely with faith leaders, community organizations, and local partners to maintain open lines of communication and support. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Let’s continue to support one another as we work together to keep our communities safe.

Here's #SomethingToKnow - police work doesn't stop when the cruiser is parked. Our officers spend less time inside a station and more time out in the community because cruisers are our constable's office on wheels. Using advanced technologies right from the inside of their cruiser, including integrated reporting writing software, GPS mapping networks, digital notebooks, in-car camera video, and e-ticketing systems, Halton Regional Police Service officers spend less time inside a station and more time out in the community, remaining visible and accessible.

Good leadership is grounded in active listening. Listening to your people, listening to your community, and listening to your instincts. At the Halton Regional Police Service, we regularly host the Chiefs Corner - an internal town-hall that brings our sworn and civilian members together. It's their chance to ask me questions live and share what's on their mind. With 44 years of experience under my belt, and as the longest serving Chief of Police in Canada, I wholeheartedly believe that our people are our greatest strength, bringing diversity of experience and perspective to the table that has the power to drive policing forward. Here's a behind the scenes look at how it all comes together.

Police officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. The least we can do in response is have their backs, no matter what. Today, I wrote to the Prime Minister outlining a series of practical steps to support and protect our brave women and men in uniform.
