My name is Chukwu Chima Darlington.
I am a Nigerian writer. I have written three novels. But that is not why I am here.
I am here because I believe that stories can change lives. I grew up watching people hustle, struggle, and survive. I watched my father rebuild from nothing. I watched my mother pray when there was nothing to eat. I watched a generation of Nigerians rise, fall, and rise again.
And I decided that someone needed to write it down.
So I wrote about a boy who had only ₦50 left. I wrote about a mother who sacrificed everything for her son. I wrote about a family that lost everything and fought to reclaim it.
These are not just stories. They are mirrors. They are prayers. They are proof that no matter how hard life gets, you can rise again.
I am building here. Every day. With words. With truth. With hope.
If you believe in the Nigerian spirit, follow me. If you believe that our stories matter, follow me. If you believe that an ordinary man with a pen can build something extraordinary, follow me.
I am just getting started.

your trauma explains why you are the way you are, but it does not excuse you from treating people badly. you are still responsible for your actions.
you don't get to treat people like an option and then get mad when they act like they don't need you. you reap exactly what you sow.
we live in a world where people would rather be validated than corrected. everyone is looking for a cheerleader, but nobody wants a mirror. get people in your life who will tell you the truth.

My wife acts like she’s doing me a favour every time we have sex.
Last week, while we were having sex, her phone rang. She paused everything to reply to a group chat from her friends.
Angrily, I stopped and looked at her in disbelief.
But what she said, made it worse.
“Babe, why are you making it weird? You were basically on autopilot anyway.” she said.
What do you mean by autopilot? I asked her but she didn't give me a reply.
So, I left her on the bed and went out.
Yesterday, it was her birthday.
I woke up very early in the morning, greeted her casually and left like I didn't know anything.
When I returned home, I intentionally didn't wish her nor did I get her a gift.
Since then, she has refused to talk to me.

I called back with my file number.
The nurse apologised and said they had dialled the right number on the wrong chart.
Then she went quiet.
“Ma’am… the patient listed is your husband. And a second name.”

I missed a call from the fertility clinic while I was in a meeting.
The voicemail said, “Congratulations. Both embryos transferred successfully. Call us to schedule your follow-up.”
I was not in a transfer cycle.
I had paused treatment three months earlier.

I ordered a bright orange replacement and wrote my name in permanent ink along the cord.
Then I added a note in the team channel: "If you need a charger, ask. Cutting mine is theft."

My laptop charger disappeared from my desk four times.
IT said to stop leaving it out.
I started chaining it to the monitor stand with a luggage lock.
Someone cut the cable.

I worked late.
I cooked.
I saved.
When the prenup review window opened, I added a clause through my lawyer: any business I founded stayed mine, growth included.
He signed while scrolling his phone.

In year three of our marriage he celebrated a promotion by joking that my career was "adorable support staff energy."
Guests laughed.
I smiled and poured wine.
That night I opened a separate savings account he could not see.

The lock had two admin accounts.
His.
And the installer account I created the day we bought the house, in my maiden name.
I reset his access in four taps.
The bolt slid open.

The night I signed the divorce papers, my husband changed the smart-lock code from his phone in the car park.
He texted, "House stays with me. Prenup, remember?"
I stood on the porch with our son asleep in the car.
I did not argue.
I opened an app he had never noticed on my phone.

I did not scream.
I cooked his favourite pasta and set two places like a mystery I already knew the ending to.
When he walked in with airport coffee, I played the speaker log on the counter speaker.
Timestamps. Door sensors. Thermostat set to her preferred temperature.

I asked our smart speaker who was home last Tuesday at midnight.
It listed two names.
Mine was not one of them.
My husband was supposed to be in Dallas.
The second name belonged to his assistant.

Not everyone you know is a friend. Some are classmates, colleagues or acquaintances.
Friendship takes trust, effort and shared values & not just selfies.
Be kind, but choose your circle wisely. Not everyone who smiles at you roots for you.
That's maturity, not bitterness. 🤍

You can’t heal a dynamic where every time you speak up, the conversation flips to how you said it instead of what was done to you.

It’s normal not to like someone, what’s PATHETIC is building a whole campaign to tear them down. That’s not strength, it’s weak, insecure energy faking power.

Victims walk in already treated like liars, abusers walk in with lawyers and protection. Most stay silent because the system is built that way.
