If Carrick really wants to turn things around, he needs to make some bold decisions.
1. Bruno Fernandes must play as the No.10. That is where he can influence the game most.
2. Start Mainoo & Baleba as the double pivot. We need legs, press resistance and control in midfield.
3. Martínez should be benched for now. He hasn't been in good form, so give someone else an opportunity.
4. Start Amass at LB and Armer at LCB. We need to start trusting the young players.
5. Amad should start. Then around 60 minutes, bring on Lacey and keep the intensity high.
6. Tielemans should be benched. We need a more energetic and aggressive midfield right now, and Mainoo + Baleba gives us that balance.
This team looks polluted and predictable right now. We need new blood, fresh energy and players who are hungry to prove themselves.
Integrating the U21 players could give us the intensity, pressing and aggression we've been missing.
Sometimes you don't fix a struggling team by changing one player. You change the energy of the entire team.
When Kobbie Mainoo was on the pitch and healthy, I knew we weren't winning every game, but we certainly weren't this terrible without him.
At least our performances gave us hope. There was something to build on, especially that Tottenham game when Baleba came on and immediately connected with Mainoo. You could see the chemistry.
Now that Kobbie is back, Carrick please 🙏🏽
Start Mainoo + Baleba behind Bruno Fernandes against Chelsea and just watch what happens.
Mainoo gives us control, Baleba gives us legs and physicality, while Bruno gets the freedom to play where he is most dangerous.

I don't really understand the problem with coaches who play a back-three system. Why does it always seem like young talents are the ones who suffer?
Just look at Estêvão. A young, exciting talent who already showed last season under Maresca that he can perform on the biggest stage — against City, Barcelona, Liverpool and other big teams.
Now Alonso has him sitting on the bench. And the funniest part? The rumour was that Palmer was the reason Estêvão couldn't get into the team. Palmer isn't even playing today and Estêvão still spends 90 minutes on the bench. I genuinely can't process it.
That's exactly what Amorim did with Mainoo, and even Tuchel has been guilty of similar decisions. Young talents get labelled “lazy” or “not good enough” by fans, but how exactly are they supposed to fight for their place when they aren't given the opportunity to fight?
If Estêvão genuinely feels Alonso doesn't trust him, I wouldn't blame him for considering his options. He's a fucking talent and talents like that need to be developed, not wasted on the bench.
