Popular perception often shapes how we engage with urban policy and view actors involved in urban development. In this video, @mnolangray explores the trope of ‘the dastardly developer - forever ruining cities and hiking rents’ youtu.be/dIjskDtki8A #popculture #urbanism

We collaborated with @WIEGOGLOBAL, @mahilahsg to develop knowledge tools to advance dialog on homes as workplaces improving habitats in urban poor settlements. Thanks @MartyChen16 for the opportunity to present insights from this work at @HarvardGSD. wiego.org/home-workplace – at Ahmadabad City, India
1/3 of all women workers in India are home-based. Professor Martha Chen of @WIEGOGLOBAL introduces @vani_h of @City_Collab & @Bijalb_15 of @mahilahsg as they present at @HarvardGSD on their work to gain recognition of the home as workplace, as it is for so many women.

World Poverty Day - The COVID-19 pandemic recession pushed millions more people into poverty. The pandemic recession also eroded the livelihoods of the majority of the 2 billion informal workers. Supporting the recovery of informal workers is a key pathway to reducing poverty

Of course, all else is never equal! This the most compelling counterargument: that there are inevitable tradeoffs between drivability, walkability, and other aspects of livability. They're hard tradeoffs.

So, let me clarify and correct this tweet. 1. Cities should be designed taking into account the immense value of cars, but not “designed for cars” or “around cars”, if that is taken to mean excluding other things we want to optimize for… teapawt.org/jasoncrawford/status/1…
Replying to @jasoncrawford
Cities should absolutely be designed around cars! Not as an exclusive consideration, but as one of the top considerations. A city that is unfriendly to cars is a bad city.
