ALT Green line graph time series of average sea surface temperature anomalies for each January to November period from 1900 through 2023. There is large interannual variability, but an overall long-term increasing trend. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline.

ALT Red colored line graph time series of global atmospheric methane abundance from January 1984 through August 2023. Methane abundance is measured in units of parts per billion. Current levels are 1919 ppb. A seasonal cycle is visible on the graph. There is also decadal variability and a long-term increasing trend.

ALT Line graph time series of 2023's daily Antarctic sea ice extent anomalies in red shading compared to each year from 1979 to 2022 using shades of purple to white for each line. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline. 2023 is a negative outlier for this time of year. There is substantial interannual and daily variability. There are no clear long-term trends.

ALT Green line graph time series of average sea surface temperature anomalies for each September from 1850 through 2023 for only the North Atlantic. There is large interannual variability, but an overall long-term increasing trend. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline. 2023 is easily the warmest on record.

ALT Four polar stereographic maps showing Arctic sea ice thickness for the month of October in 1983-1992, 1993-2002, 2003-2012, and 2013-2022. Thickness is shown with colors from black at 0 meters to purple at 2.5 meters to white at 5.0 meters. Sea ice in thinning in all regions over time.
