William Contreras is the youngest of three boys (with older brothers Willmer and Willson). Their mother, Olga, worked as a school janitor; their father ran a small business with his brother. Both parents put in long hours, so the boys were supposed to be studying when they lived in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela. Instead, they slipped out to play. Real baseballs were out of reach, so they made them from wadded paper and tape and used a broomstick as a bat. Contreras later called those unsupervised afternoons “beautiful moments.” He was a middle infielder then, shortstop and second base, not a catcher. At 17, in February 2015, the Atlanta Braves signed him for a modest $10,000 and immediately moved him behind the plate. The position change stuck. He has said he loves catching because he is “in the middle of the field” and “the only person who has everybody in front of you.” That modest bonus and the forced switch turned out to be the pivot of his career. A later, more private story is his first reaction to the December 2022 trade that sent him from Atlanta to Milwaukee. He told his agent to “trade me back,” responded with something like “MILWAUKEE?! OK. Nobody talk to me,” and was so put off that he stopped speaking to the agent for a while. He has written that he barely understood what a trade meant at the time and that, as a Venezuelan kid coming from Atlanta, Milwaukee felt like a different world. Years later, he openly regrets the reaction. He has said the organization, the fans, and the baseball city won him over, that he “got lucky,” and that he hopes to spend his whole career there, especially after helping the Brewers reach and win the World Series. The paper-and-tape games and the initial “trade me back” moment are quieter than the All-Star selections, Silver Sluggers, or the 2026 World Series MVP, but they show how the path actually unfolded.

This is such a great quote from Christian Yelich to @MLBNetwork. This is what being a fan is all about. "We understand what this team means to people. We understand, that when the Brewers are playing well, it directly impacts the happiness of the community, and people's lives. People have grown up with this team. People have made memories with their parents, kids, best friends, and a lot of those common memories are with the Brewers. You don't take that lightly."

The Brewers come back from a 4-run first inning deficit to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series. The last 13 times a team has taken a 2-0 World Series lead, they've gone on to win the series. The Brewers have two 4-run comeback wins this postseason (also NLCS Game 4); they were 1-19 when trailing by 4+ runs in the postseason prior to 2026 ⚾️

Louisiana Tech head football coach Sonny Cumbie has learned firsthand that more hours don't always lead to better leadership. "At the end of the day, when my brain is done, I'm going home, and the problems that are here will still be here tomorrow. I'll serve our team better with a fresh mind and being well rested." The longer I've worked with coaches and leaders, the more I've realized that the goal isn't to squeeze every ounce of energy out of yourself in the service of others. It's to sustainably show up at your best so your people (and you) benefit in the process. Coaching will always require sacrifice. There will be long days, late nights, and periods when the demands are especially high. But sacrifice isn't automatically evidence of effectiveness. Sometimes the most productive thing a leader can do is go home, recover, and come back tomorrow ready to think clearly and serve others well. 📹: Win More, Live Better Podcast (Ep. 261)

If you’re wondering what the #Brewers being in the World Series means to Wisconsin … someone is literally projecting playoff highlights onto their house and broadcasting the radio calls in real time …. turning their home into a Christmas light show … but for baseball. 😂😂😂
