UNC basketball player Isaiah Denis recently shared that when he wasn’t getting much playing time last year, he started treating practices like his games.
He couldn’t control his minutes, but he could choose how he used the opportunity in front of him. Every practice gave him a chance to compete, improve, and prepare.
It’s easy to get so focused on the opportunity we want that we overlook the one we have. But how you approach today can help or hurt your preparation for tomorrow.
Are you using this moment to become more ready for the next one? #TheConfidentAthlete
We have spent a lot of time in the gym together... Couldn't be more proud and excited for you Stella. 🖤❤️💛❤️🖤🤍
Excited to announce my commitment to @RedWolvesWBB @GoWolvesCoachSC @TaylorFarris10 to continue my athletic and academic career! Go Wolves. One Pack. @NewBremenGBB @NewBremenSports @DLHoopstars @DLHoopstarsHS @CoachBPatch
Hate to say Cignetti and the Hoosiers aren't going anywhere. Amazing how coaching can make such a difference in a program. 3 years ago who would have thought IU is now a football school!

I’ve been involved in girls basketball for close to two decades, and one thing I’ve noticed is that a large amount of players NOT ALL, of course will choose a college 6 hours or less of home.
Throughout their college careers, many women’s basketball players want to stay close to family, and some will even transfer closer to home during their 4/5 years of college basketball.
So when choosing AAU circuits and tournaments, be careful about breaking the bank!!!
You may travel 7+ hours for tournaments, spend money on hotels, food, gas, and entry fees, but there’s a good chance your daughter will ultimately attend a college much closer to home.
I don’t know nearly as much statistically about boys AAU basketball, so I’d love to hear from some of the boys coaches. Is it similar on the boys side?

Urban Meyer believes people should stop claiming they want to reach their dreams when their daily habits say otherwise
“I always like to say, you’re here, and you want to get there. The fastest way is draw that straight line and stay away from anything that pulls you off of that straight line.”
“There’s a great quote actually right over there that says, ‘Do your habits reflect your dreams and goals? And if not, then change.’”
“When I had my son, I changed that quote. My son has it up in his bedroom right next to his bed: ‘If your habits don’t reflect your dreams and goals, change your habits, or change your dreams and goals.’ Don’t lie to yourself.”
“I hear people say, ‘I want to go play in the NFL,’ but you’re acting like this. Don’t lie. You lie to me, it’s fine. But don’t lie to yourself.”
“Then you’ve got to look in the mirror and say, ‘Do I really want to be a first-round draft pick and I’m doing this?’ That’s when usually it hits home.”
I'm gonna guess Bella will get an offer from every P5/4 school. If not then not sure what they are doing. #1 player in Ohio for a reason.
After a great conversation with @CoachCullop I’m blessed to receive an offer from @CanesWBB !!🟩🟧 @Legends_Bball @BryceMcKey @WCgball

Great group of families to be a part of. They have played teams from every circuit, participated in quality tournaments and are currently 16-7. The team does everything opposite what people complain about with AAU. Makes for great an experience.
Last tournament for this year, at Spooky Nook. I’m happy to end this year strong, and known I’ve improved my game this season. Although, I’m going to miss my teammates a lot!

Very impressed with @DLHoopstars @DLHoopstarsHS practices and skill work. Matt Madges and Baleigh Reid do a great job of developing their players in their program.
"AAU is ruining basketball."
I hear some version of that every summer. But I don't think it's that simple.
Do some AAU programs deserve criticism? Absolutely!
But if you're judging all of AAU by what you see during the games, you're missing a big part of the picture.
The BEST programs spend plenty of time shooting, doing skill work, teaching team offense and team defense, and, believe it or not... even practicing passing.
They also try to teach accountability. And that's not always easy in an environment where players can switch programs in a weekend.
One criticism of AAU I do agree with is that too many players don't get enough skill reps between games. That's why I have so much respect for the coaches who book extra gyms, reserve fitness centers, or find any available court during long tournament weekends so their players can get shots up, recover, stretch, and continue developing.
Think about it. What happens between the games often matters more than the games themselves.
Is every program doing this? Not at all.
But many coaches ARE investing far more time, energy, and care into developing young people than they'll ever get credit for.
The best AAU programs aren't just trying to win the next game. They're trying to prepare kids for high school or the next level.
If you've seen a coach or AAU program doing it the right way, drop their name in the comments. Let's give the good ones the recognition they deserve! 👏👏👏
Been fun watching Stella put in the work this summer so looking forward to watching her and the Hoopstar team play again. They had an outstanding spring. They play hard and play together.
I’m excited to get back with my Hoopstar team after a month with my school team! @DLHoopstarsHS @DLHoopstars @JDabbs86 @CoachBPatch @SelectEventsBB
Watching Save the Last Dance with the girls the last few days. Showing them how good Michael was. Man did Jerry Krause screw up a dynasty run of all time. Karma for that franchise ever since.

I had a great time competing at today’s elite camp at @SAUCougarsWBB. Thank you @JW4coach, @RandyFieldqxhx, and @CoachAl_Scott for putting on an amazing camp! #JOY #UBUNTU
Extended vacation at the Lake before Elite camp and July AAU. Love how she wants to still find time for the gym. But for me seeing her invest in herself is what I love.

Spacing/Respacing requires you to be able to read the floor, not your man.
Understand spots on the floor, rotations of a defense, who’s responsible for who in scramble situations. Read 1-2 passes ahead of the ball getting to you.
I compare it to WRs running routes against a zone coverage. Make yourself available in a soft spots and until the QB finds you. Everybody has scramble drill rules.

Hardest thing to teach, get HS players to understand is spacing and respacing.
Their brains are wired to catch dribble, catch hold, call for a ball screen or stand.
Its why so many resort to calling sets. But sets don’t teach them how to play off the action.

Today's basketball often celebrates difficult shot-making.
Elite basketball celebrates creating easy shots.
Open layups.
Paint touches.
Corner 3s.
Free throws.
Advantage attacks.
The best offensive players don’t prove how tough a shot they can make.
They prove how easy they can make the game for themselves and their teammates.
