Let’s hope so
Obviously I didn't vote for @AnnieAndrewsMD but she's off to a good start. As Spurrier used to say in talking season. But hopeful she will work to stop the radicals in her party from dragging the country through yet another impeachment

The path to a CFP berth for No. 21 South Carolina ... (which would make history as the first team outside the initial top-18 to get there as an at-large) 1) Win out, finish 9-3 2) Mizzou loses 2 of last 4 3) Iowa loses 1 of last 4 4) USC loses to Indiana + UCLA 5) Houston loses 1 of last 4 6) Wake Forest doesn't win ACC 7) Texas Tech loses 1 of last 4 8) Notre Dame loses to Miami 9) Ohio State loses 1 of last 4 10) Tennessee loses 1 of next 4 11) BYU loses to Utah 12) Georgia beats Ole Miss That should do it.

I picked UCLA on the @savage_cfb podcast in our pre-season episode as my National Sleeper. So far, they have paid that bill. After this story, I’m really a UCLA fan ! 🙏🤜
Bob Chesney Senior is 76 and he's in the UCLA football building early in the morning and he's still in there at night. He's in the staff meetings. He works with the DL. He's got no title, he's not on the payroll and nobody ever asked him to come. The players call him Coach Senior. He got there this summer and has been there since. His son is the head coach. UCLA are 5th in the country this week (first time they've been in the top 10 since October 2001) and they're 8 and 0. Now back up 26 years. Bob Chesney grew up in Kulpmont, PA (population at last census 2,758). It was a coal town, with a corner store and a bar on pretty much every block and a social life that went through the clubs, the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and the American Legion and the Polish and Irish clubs. His dad coached at the Catholic high school. So did his uncle. So did his grandfather. Chesney was the ball boy before he was old enough to play. His parents couldn't afford his schooling so he went back home in the summer and worked. Some summers that was doing the landscaping. Some summers it was at the mine. 'The toughest one was mining coal.' "Back in Kulpmont that's what you did." Years later as a young assistant at Johns Hopkins (making around $28k) he was sharing a 4 bedroom house with his future wife and two roommates and was tending bar at a club in Baltimore at night (four or five hundred a shift). "Got me through those years." He started out as a graduate assistant at a DIII school in 2000. Then Delaware Valley. Then King's College. Then Johns Hopkins. Then head coaching jobs at Salve Regina, Assumption, Holy Cross and James Madison. 8 conference titles. A career record of 132 and 52. Martin Jarmond (the AD who hired him) put it in seven words. "Everywhere he's been he's turned it around." Be absolutely clear about what his father actually watched, as it wasn't anything quick and it was by no means glamorous. Bob Senior saw all 26 years of it from the very start and that's how he describes it. He did it one rung at a time. He didn't skip a single one. A 76 year old man who coached high school football in a coal town is now standing on a practice field in LA with no title and no pay at all, just watching his son coach the 5th best team in the country. I do get choked up about it. I'm an emotional guy. Somebody asked Chesney what the best bit about having his dad there was. "Well that he is my dad."

In honor of Ernie Johnson’s retirement announcement, here’s him after Trump was elected: “From one election to the next, I don’t know who’s gonna be in the Oval Office, but I always know who’s on The Throne… I’m a Christian… Scripture tells us to pray for our leaders. I’m gonna pray for Donald Trump.” Ernie is one of the most talented, well-respected, & solid Christian men in sports media. He will be dearly missed after this season. God bless this man for using his platform for Christ 👏

Let that sink in
A college quarterback turned down eight million dollars to stay where he already was. Today his team beat Tennessee. The offer was eight million over two years, from a school that wanted him to transfer. He was 19 years old. Here is what his father said about it. "He was offered all kinds of crazy numbers." "We didn't come here to make money." "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." His name is LaNorris Sellers. His father is Norris Sellers. They are from Florence, South Carolina. Understand that this was not a kid with nowhere else to go. He went to South Florence High School all four years and took them to a state championship as a senior, 57 to 30. He was the player of the year in that town and the offensive MVP of the Shrine Bowl. He committed to Virginia first. Then he changed it to Syracuse. Then in December of 2022 he signed with South Carolina instead, about an hour and a half up the road from his house. He sat his first year behind Spencer Rattler and played three games. Then they gave him the job and he was the best freshman in the Southeastern Conference. He threw for 2,534 yards and ran for 674 more. Nine wins. A top 15 ranking. They beat Missouri, Texas A&M and Clemson in the same season. That is when the phone calls started. Here is what he says about why he did not pick up. "I've built relationships here, my family's here, my brother's here." His younger brother Jayden plays receiver on the same team. His father says it was never really a debate. "There were several talks, but it never really crossed his mind." Now be honest about the two years since. They went 4 and 8 last season after being ranked tenth in the country, which is about as bad as a year can go. He came into today 2 and 3. He has thrown 19 interceptions in his career and his completion percentage has gone down, not up. Eight million dollars is also a sum of money most people reading this will never see, and there is no version of this where turning it down was obviously correct. His father said the quiet part out loud about that. "Who's gonna say no to eight million dollars for two years?" The answer is almost nobody, and that is exactly the point. Teenagers get that call and they go, and they are not wrong to go. This one stayed, in the state he grew up in, at the school an hour from his mother's house, on a team where his little brother catches his passes. And today, on a bad season, against the eleventh ranked team in America, the Volunteers came to South Carolina and lost.

A reminder that Malik Orsan unceremoniously signed with South Carolina at the end of April and based on resumes (zero career attempts) was probably considered the LEAST likely to win the kicking job at the time. Gamecocks added another late addition at kicker during preseason camp bc no one had taken command of the job. Malik didn’t start the opener either. Kept battling tho. Just walked out there and absolutely drilled the game winner to cap off a night Gamecock fans will never forget.
