Lesson recap with James. Working on organization and sequencing through the footwork, and understanding how those movements influence everything further up the chain—from torso positioning to arm path.

Making an athlete tired isn’t difficult. Coaches have countless ways to create physical exhaustion. The challenge is knowing how to direct that effort toward meaningful skill development. Fatigue can be a byproduct of great coaching. It shouldn’t be mistaken for evidence of it.

When coaching becomes more focused on inducing fatigue as the objective, baseball skill acquisition takes a back seat. Teach the game.

📚 Organizing around the task, not the finish There are obvious tendencies in the way Prince decelerates—an aggressive lead-leg block with recoil, which often sends him back onto his rear leg.

🔹 One of the most beautiful things is how he at times also seems to find redirection and flow to first base after the recoil. Almost a walkout swing. There’s a rhythm to it.

👉 Same hitter. Consistent tendencies. Varying expressions to meet the demands of the task at hand.

450 felt smoother. Body weight’s down about 30 pounds, so I’m still dialing in some adjustments with bracing, tightness, and mobility. Big focus over the past three weeks has been slowly adding more volume, building up to this workout of 10 sets of 1.

Just slowly building back up. Tough to do while leaning out. I know there’s more in the tank, but more focused on corrections right now. Happy with the progress.

Building on concepts with Will around controlling the forward move, preventing a rush into the front side, and creating more stability and adjustability as we rotate into it. @WillCMalone

Great dynamic drill I use pretty often with players. A few things it forces you to do:

3️⃣ The shuffle challenges the athlete to move dynamically while maintaining posture and balance.

4️⃣ It encourages the hitter to work through the swing rather than falling back, while creating a higher demand on the front leg to accept and control force. Tatum Kreutz | Ursuline Academy ‘27 @TatumKreutz | @UrsulineSports

Success isn’t an accident. Every stage of this game is going to ask something different from you. It’s going to ask more from you. More dedication to the skill work. More mental perseverance. Better boundaries from distraction.

You’re not just learning how to overcome what’s in front of you. You’re building the person capable of handling what comes next. This takes time to compound. You don’t stumble into that.

There will be setbacks. There will be growth. There will be periods when, even with focused energy, it feels like you’re only moving sideways. That doesn’t change what you’re building—or what you know you can build. Finish the vision.
