75 years ago today, Johnny Bright was targeted on the field at Oklahoma A&M.
Johnny didn’t let that day define him.
Today his No. 43 is retired. His name is on our field and Bright College. And as of last Friday, he stands tall in bronze outside Drake Stadium.

This was undoubtedly one of my favorite experiences working at @DrakeUniversity. Seeing the reaction from the Bright family will stick with me. I'm grateful to my @DUBulldogs & campus colleagues for helping us get to this fantastic day. Johnny Bright's story is one worth sharing.

In addition to the unveiling of the Johnny Bright statue this week, we’ll also be wearing No. 43 decals on our helmets to honor his life, legacy, and lasting impact on Drake University.
A legacy that will forever be part of our program.
