To put that into perspective, Maumee has accomplished this feat just twice in the last 22 years, with the last occurrence coming during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. It is also the 10th appearance Maumee football has made in the OHSAA State Playoffs in its program’s history. This is more than just another playoff appearance. It’s a testament to the hard work, commitment, and belief of the players and coaches who continue to push this program forward. The work isn’t finished. We’ve earned the opportunity to keep playing, and now it’s time to make the most of it! Today, members of our team leadership had the opportunity to visit with former Maumee Head Football Coach Bob Boyles, a member of the Maumee Athletic Hall of Excellence and Contribution. We spent some time talking football, sharing stories, and having plenty of laughs. Coach Boyles shared some memories with our guys and wished the Panthers luck as we head into the final stretch of our season. Days like today are a great reminder that Maumee Football is bigger than any one team or any one season. We’re proud to represent a program built by generations of Panthers who came before us, and we’re grateful we got to spend some time with one of the coaches who helped build that tradition. We are Maumee!

This Friday night against Genoa, Team Captain Eli Dodson has selected Mrs. Gail Salmon to serve as our Maumee Football Honorary Captain! This selection goes back a few years. Mrs. Salmon was Eli’s teacher in both 4th and 5th grade at Wayne Trail Elementary School, what is now Maumee Intermediate School. Years later, Eli is now a senior and captain of the Maumee Football team, and he chose a teacher who made an impact on him early in his Maumee journey to join him at midfield. Mrs. Salmon is celebrating an incredible 25 years of service to Maumee City Schools and continues to serve Maumee students as a Gifted Intervention Specialist. Our Honorary Captain tradition gives our senior captains an opportunity to recognize an educator who has made a lasting impact on their lives. On Friday night, Mrs. Salmon will put on a Maumee Football jersey and walk alongside her former student for the coin toss at Kazmaier Stadium. From her classroom at Wayne Trail/Maumee Intermediate to midfield at the Kaz. Pretty special. Thank you, Mrs. Salmon, for 25 years of impacting Panthers! WE ARE MAUMEE!
