We gathered at Old Town Plaza to remember Dolores Huerta and the life she dedicated to fighting for dignity, fairness and a better future for working families. Through a small ceremony and an ofrenda, we honored her legacy and the countless lives she touched.

Dolores Huerta was a hero of mine. When she co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962, people thought Dolores was crazy. “How are you going to organize farm workers,” she remembered being asked. "They are poor, powerless immigrants.” But that’s exactly what she did, helping thousands of migrant laborers working in brutal conditions make their voices heard, and demand something better. Dolores spent the rest of her life fighting for marginalized communities, even as she herself faced sexism and abuse — including, as she revealed earlier this year, from Cesar Chavez and others within her own movement. She also came up with a pretty good slogan, “Si, se puede” — Yes, we can — that I too often get credit for. But as usual, Dolores got there first. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolores’s family, the people whose lives she changed, and everyone who drew inspiration from her example. Photo credit: National Archives, Obama Presidential Library

Dolores Huerta seemed like she might live forever. She endured. She never seemed to say no to an invitation to lend her voice to a cause she believed in. May she rest in peace.
Dolores Huerta, the fiery and resolute activist who helped launch and guide the nation’s first enduring labor union for poor farm workers and later became an inspiration to women and liberal true believers, has died. She was 96. latimes.com/politics/story/2…

These are a few clips from Jb’s last video during Covid. My grandson, Fedonta “JB” White, was 18 years old when he was taken by gun violence in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on August 1, 2020—one week before he would have joined the UNM Lobos. I’m sharing these clips because his life matters, and we won’t forget him. Rest in peace, my son🕊️ #jbwhite #LLJB
