Caron Butler on his six seasons as an assistant coach with the Miami HEAT:
"I looked at it like college. Like I'm going to a four-year university. I've been there six years. So I feel like I got a master's degree in basketball now. I was just in basketball school under the Godfather and under Spo. I learned so much."
Butler said he learned everything from player development and game planning to offensive and defensive strategy while working alongside Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra.
"I've learned so much. And now that I've had that experience, I'm ready to make that step forward as a head coach."

Caron Butler reflects on bringing Myron Gardner to Klay Thompson after the game to apologize and show respect:
"It's a respect-the-game clause that exists in the fabric of my DNA.
I saw some stuff that was unconventional and I was like, bro, alright, get your stuff off, compete at a high level, let's get this win. But at the same time, this is a dude that you should shadow. This is a proven champion. He's done a lot in this association."
