The Cubs have played like shit in the 2nd half but blaming the trade deadline is beyond stupid once you break it down. The biggest decision they made was sticking by Matt Shaw, who has the #1 wRC+ in the NL for the 2nd half. The problem is scoring 20 runs in an 8 game stretch. The problem is Swanson, Busch & PCA striking out 33% of their plate appearances. The problem is Kyle Tucker has an .079 ISO and Seiya having a .625 OPS last 21 games. The problem is having your best everyday players fall off a cliff at the exact same time. Replacing Matt Shaw for Eugenio Suarez's .357 OPS in the last 10 games would have technically made this roster worse to date. The starting pitching ranks 4th in MLB in the 2nd half. Can Joe Ryan or MacKenzie Gore hit cleanup? Because otherwise I don't understand how much better they could improve the club when the problem is a lifeless and inconsistent offense. If you want to be mad with the front office, start with Moises Ballesteros in AAA while Jon Berti cracks sunflower seeds. But blaming a 2-4 week after not trading for Josh Naylor? Or Ryan O'Hearn? Or Carlos Correa? Or Cedric Mullins or Ty France? What the fuck is that about? The problem right now is lifeless and gutless baseball. The problem is having the worst 1-4 in MLB over the last 3 weeks and no spark to turn it around. And that problem is solely on Craig Counsell to figure out because that's his responsibility. Anyways. New Monday Morning Cubs Show should be out in a little bit.

Jarryn Payne (2026) had a Broad Jump of over 11 feet at the Hampton University Football Camp. @hupirates_fb 19 years in the business, this is the first time I've seen over 11 feet. Payne had 34 catches for 610 Receiving Yards and 7 touchdowns last season
