Vikings are about to be at the top after a Colts victory. Hopefully it’s a little less dramatic than the best comeback in NFL history

You’d have to earn
$7594 a week
now, to have the same spending power as a boomer kid had working full time at a movie theater selling popcorn in July 1971
My brother makes $26 an hour.
40 hours a week.
That’s about $54,080 a year before taxes.
His monthly expenses:
$1,750 rent
$375 car payment
$230 insurance
$550 groceries
$200 utilities
And people still tell him:
“You just need to budget better.”
Bro is budgeting $26 an hour against 2026 prices.
Sometimes the problem isn’t spending habits.
It’s the math.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Math is wrong.
Minimum wage in 1971 was $1.60 per hour ($3,328 per year). Adjusted for inflation that is $13.14 per hour ($27,323.86 per year) in 2026.
$7,954 per week is $413,608 per year.

Proud of our football team getting our first win last night. Our season has not started the way we expected, but not one player on our team has stopped playing hard. We may not win every game, but the relationships our staff has with our kids will last a lifetime. @TwinsburgHSFB
