On the morning of January 10, 2002, 19 year old Rachel Cooke laced up her running shoes and headed out the door of her parents' house outside Georgetown, Texas. She was home on winter break from college in San Diego. She was a cross country runner, and she ran the same few miles through her quiet neighborhood almost every day. Gray running outfit. Asics. A yellow Walkman with headphones. She left around 9:30 a.m. She never came home. Her family started searching almost immediately. Within days, hundreds of people were combing the countryside on foot, on horseback, and by helicopter. They found nothing. Not a shoe. Not the Walkman. Not a single sign of a struggle. A 19 year old girl vanished in broad daylight on her own street. For years the case sat still. Then things started to move. In 2018, investigators hauled a white car into Georgetown on a flatbed truck, covered in a tarp. They said it was connected to persons of interest in the case. Tests later showed the presence of blood inside. In 2020, on the 18th anniversary, the sheriff's office released sketches of two persons of interest. In 2021, they said they were looking for a man who knew Rachel back in 2002, someone who'd worked in the cattle and horse business and moved around Texas. Investigators have chased more than 2,000 tips. Then this January, on the 24th anniversary, the lead detective said they're waiting on new lab results. He said they believe Rachel likely knew her abductor, or at least knew who he was. "We all believe that we're close." There has still been no arrest. Rachel has never been found. 24 years later, her mom says she thinks about her a hundred times a day. Rachel went for a run she'd done a hundred times before. Someone was waiting for her.

In August 2011, an Orlando mom named Michelle Parker and her ex-fiancé went on The People's Court. They were fighting over a $5,000 engagement ring. On camera, the fight got ugly. Michelle talked about the relationship turning physical. She told the judge he could get malicious and vindictive. The episode was set to air three months later. On November 17, 2011, the day it hit TV, Michelle was 33. She was a bartender and a mother of three, including 3 year old twins she shared with her ex. That afternoon, right around the time the show came on, she dropped the twins off at his condo for a visit. Later, security cameras caught her going through a KFC drive through. That night she was supposed to show up to her bartending shift. She never made it. The next day, her black Hummer was found abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot. At first, her family thought it was a carjacking. Two years later, police released red light camera footage of her Hummer at an intersection at 8:55 p.m. that night, less than a mile from where it was found. They said they didn't believe whoever was responsible acted alone. "A two person situation." Then her iPhone turned up. Police said it was in remarkably good condition. They wouldn't say where they found it. Police eventually named her ex-fiancé as their prime suspect. He has always denied any involvement. He lost custody of the twins, and her mother now raises them. Investigators have searched retention ponds, lakes, and a family member's backyard. Dive teams. Cadaver dogs. Volunteers. Nothing. No one has ever been charged. Next month will mark 15 years since Michelle Parker disappeared. Millions of people watched her on TV that day. Nobody has seen her since.
