Even though a “ban” is irrelevant because it's against the Constitution. The Republicans have been in control of this state for years, why hasn't there been official legislation passed and signed into law already?

Every election cycle, Texas politicians look you dead in the eye and promise to abolish property taxes.
They have made it a mathematical impossibility, and they know you will fall for it anyway.
Texas school districts are sitting on roughly $148 billion in outstanding bond debt. Once you tally the compounding interest over the next thirty years, that bill crosses $200 billion.
By law, those bonds are backed directly by your local property taxes through the Interest & Sinking rate. You cannot legally abolish the tax without defaulting on that debt or bailing out vanity stadiums across the state.
Austin throws you a tiny bone with "tax compression," and your local school board quietly raises debt service on the back end to absorb it. It is a three-card monte game designed to keep suburban conservatives pacified while their land is quietly mortgaged until 2060.
The politicians are lying to you, but voters are the ones signing the checks. We keep rubber-stamping multi-billion-dollar bond packages in low-turnout May elections, then act surprised when our tax bills arrive.

Just one correction - we the people are the ultimate backstop to prevent tyranny. The Constitution is just words on paper, and as John Adams astutely recognized, and as we can see in our government today, "Because We have no Government armed with Power capable of contending with human Passions unbridled by morality and Religion. Avarice, Ambition, Revenge or Galantry, would break the strongest Cords of our Constitution as a Whale goes through a Net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." Only a "moral and religious People" will pay heed to words on paper.
This is why efforts at things like "gun control" fail. A criminal will not obey a sign that says, "no weapons allowed," nor will they obey laws that create obstacles to obtaining firearms - they will simply ignore such laws and find other ways.
The same is true of our elected representatives. Most of them either don't understand, or simply don't care about and choose to ignore, the limited nature of the powers granted the federal government by the Constitution nor the restrictions levied by it against the federal government (such as "shall not be infringed").
The only true check against a rogue government (which is what we have) is we the people. Unfortunately, most are too ignorant. lazy, or cowardly to do anything about it.

🚨 ELECTION ALERT IN THE RACE FOR GOVERNOR OF TEXAS 🚨
The Governor's unredacted communications with Elon Musk will now remain sealed until after Texas has voted.
On Monday, a Travis County judge ordered the Governor's office to make the records available for inspection by 10 a.m. Thursday. The Governor appealed. On Tuesday, the state's 15th Court of Appeals confirmed a stay and gave the challenger 14 days to respond — a calendar that runs past November 3, whatever the courts eventually decide.
The record so far: 1,374 pages released, and all but about 200 were entirely blacked out.
The court that issued the stay seats three justices. All three were appointed by the governor whose records are at issue. The law that created their court was signed by that same governor in 2023.
Now follow the money. The man whose correspondence sits in those sealed pages has given the governor's campaign $5.5 million.
Five days remain. The emails will outlast the election.
Early voting runs through Friday, October 30.
