Review of ‘Whalefall’ (2026)

58, Not Cinema, For at least 60% of Whalefall's runtime, it's mostly exactly what you expect from a movie about a diver getting eaten by a whale and trying to escape. It's kind of unnerving, fairly…

Review of ‘Fjord’ (2026)

82, Almost Cinema, I knew little about the film going in, and I'm glad that was the case. Fjord is an upsetting movie. It focuses on a traditional evangelical Romanian family now living in Norway…

Review of ‘Digger’ (2026)

68, Not Not Cinema, Digger has been received as one of the more polarizing films in a bit. It is an unequivocal financial disaster, but critically, some are calling it a piece of trash, while others…

Review of ‘Tuner’ (2025)

84, Cinema, Tuner is a genre piece that uses its conceit, a piano tuner with a condition that gives him hypersensitive hearing who discovers he has a knack for safecracking, to maximum effect. As far…

Review of ‘The Weight’ (2026)

72, Almost Cinema, The Weight is what I would call "elevated average." It is beautifully shot, has excellent sound design, and some great acting, yet the plot itself is so well-trodden, and the film…

Review of ‘Enemies, a Love Story’ (1989)

69, Not Not Cinema, Enemies, a Love Story is a tragicomedy that ultimately is neither that tragic nor comedic. Sure, Herman, the film's main character and a Holocaust survivor, has had an…

Review of ‘Buddy’ (2026)

Review of ‘Tony’ (2026)

90, Cinema, Heartfelt. Warm. Funny. Well constructed. Those are the words that come to mind for Tony. It is a coming-of-age story, or a bildungsroman, as the titular character would say. Tony follows…

Review of ‘Ready or Not’ (2019)
