It's my last day working at the @RECouncil. I've had a fantastic 5 & a half years there. It's been a privilege to be Chief Exec & work with so many great people across the RE world. I'm in awe of all the teachers, advisors, SACRE members, resource providers, teacher trainers...

Yes! @CommissionOnRE recommended a body of RE professionals appointed by DfE but at arm's length. Critically, only the Nat Entitlement would be statutory, not these progs of study. This would leave it open for schls with a relig character, LAs, academies etc to develop their own

Absolutely. There was much more consensus than we expected. But there were also powerful vested interests that were concerned that their own power would be diminished by exploring worldviews in the context of historicity, power, individual interpretation. #REchatUK

Broadly, yes. When @CommissionOnRE took evidence from people from across the RE world I think they were surprised by how much agreement there was about the purpose of the subject. Their National Entitlement tries to capture the broad agreement. #REchatUK

What might be gained? A single (ideally statutory) point of reference (be it a nat syllabus or the @CommissionOnRE Nat Entitlement) would make it easier to deal with the prob of schools not teaching RE at all (800k pupils missing out every yr according to REC & NATRE). #REchatUK

Great virtual @RECouncil education committee. Discussed promoting thevision of the @CommissionOnRE as well as how to support teachers during Covid-19. We were also joined today by blackbirds, seagulls and a cat!! Chairing the meeting was great fun!!!

Anyone interested in the future of RE, and on ensuring that all pupils in all schools have a high quality education in Religion & Worldviews, should read the book. Ignoring the call to arms will see the subject in dire straights. johncattbookshop.com/reformi…

I've finished @MarkChater1's "Reforming RE: Power & Knowledge in a Worldviews Curriculum". It's a great book, bringing together some of RE's leading thinkers. I am delighted to see such quality of reflection on driving forward the vital reforms that @CommissionOnRE called for.

Useful article by Denise Cush in Nordidactica Journal of Humantities and Social Sciences Education (2019:4). V insightful reading of interplay between Wintersgill’s Big Ideas & @RECouncil CoRE recommendations. RE curriculum thinkers should read. Online: kau.diva-portal.org/smash/ge…

I think the plans we have at the @RECouncil for this Worldview project are really exciting. It's going to be great working with so many fabulous people to seek a shared set of understandings of how the concept is & might be used in RE.
We have just published an update on our exciting Worldview Project. Find out what's been happening here - religiouseducationcouncil.or…

Very interesting. Sir Malcolm Evans, one of the former commissioners with @CommissionOnRE has suggested that the @WG_Education announcement on ending the parental right of withdrawal from RE could be opening them up to legal challenges. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-5140…

Listening to @Ad_Robertson on text, art, ritual, & belief. Great to hear he's rooting his work in the National Entitlement proposed by @CommissionOnRE. #StrictlyRE

RE does (& must) engage with non-religious worldviews, & pupils must be equipped to critically engage with religious & non-religious worldviews. Check out the recommendations of the @CommissionOnRE which the @RECouncil fully support - I think you might be encouraged by them!
