There is a reason am sharing this video post watershed. Please forgive the language but illustrates why I ask residents to come and meet in person rather than trying to use social media for any serious discussion these days. These are all real comments made on a variety of forums on the video about our next open meeting for Walthamstow residents on Thursday 22nd October at 7pm to discuss politics. If you are local and think being able to talk matters please spread word about this meeting and rsvp to my office for details of the venue. Sorry mum for the swearing but it really isn’t me.

Last week the Leader of the House met with @jenniferdnadel, the founder of Compassion in Politics, where they discussed how Parliament can modernise the way it works and the culture it creates.

Abuse towards people in public life impacts staff as well as politicians. The findings of the Parliamentary Staff Wellness Working Group's (WWG) survey are shocking. Many of the recommendations align with our Jo Cox Civility Commission. Learn more: theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Language really does matter. Thank you @TulipSiddiq for calling it out. @CompInPolitics
Tulip Siddiq made a point of order in the House of Commons after Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch attacked Bridget Phillipson, again, "Kemi Badenoch called the Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson a spiteful class warrior" "And previously she's compared Bridget Phillipson to a gestapo officer" "Madame Deputy Speaker, I started out working in parliament as a teenager, and for 25 years of being involved in politics I have never seen the atmosphere here in parliament and outside quite so hostile and intimidatory, especially towards female elected representatives" "Madame Deputy Speaker, words matters and inflammatory language contribute to this hostility towards politicians, especially women" "Could I ask your advice whether the language that was used by the leader of the opposition today, towards the Secretary of State for Education, who is a woman who grew up in poverty, on a council estate, raised by a single mother, on free school meals, and worked her way up to Cabinet, is appropriate language to be used in the chamber" "Not only does this language contribute to hostility, it also puts off women, from coming into this very important profession"

.@CompInPolitics is calling for #PMQs in its current form to be scrapped and replaced with a proper system of accountability that is respectful and fit for the 21st century and the complex issues facing our country
‘Kemi sounded like the class bully.’ @Jenniferdnadel calls out Prime Minister's Questions for 'rewarding bullying' and reducing complex issues down to a ‘Punch and Judy show’. @BenKentish

BREAKING: I've secured a parliamentary debate next week on banning all MPs' second jobs. Farage has pocketed over £1 MILLION from outside "work" since the General Election Being an MP is a full-time job. No MP should be out chasing lucrative second jobs. Let's end this racket!

Scientists have long grappled with how to measure the effect of social media on children. Now, the UK government has announced a total ban for everyone under 16, and researchers are rushing to design rigorous studies before it comes into effect newscientist.com/article/253…

Sign the petition to stop social media platforms profiting from hate and disinformation. A simple law could remove the legal loophole that says they're not publishers so they can no longer escape liability for the harm they cause. you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio…
The current debate around online safety is heavily focused on protecting under-16s. Democracy and society also need protection from large internet tech companies. ‼️ Sign our petition demanding that the Govt do more to protect us - you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio…

Today marks ten years since Jo was killed. We remember Jo as a mother, sister, daughter, wife, friend, campaigner and public servant. We remember her courage, her compassion, and her belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. 1/2
