After a busy summer filled with internships (loved following them on IG!), @CompSci_High is about to open its doors for a new academic year. Good opportunity to share their story again. They’re always looking for donations, volunteers and speakers. Want to get involved? :)
1- Spent a few hours at @CompSci_High today: my mind is blown. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s a charter school in the Bronx using technology as a bridge from marginalization to economic opportunity. This is their founding year, they currently teach 9th grade.

6- Again - I don’t have the words to express how impressed I am: the teachers are engaging, empathetic and they’re doing an incredible job at bringing their vision to reality. The students are amazing too: they’re smart, creative and own their unique identity. – at Manhattan, NY

5- On their walls, the content is inspiring and contributes to an atmosphere of hard work, brotherhood, courage, ambition, responsibility and community. Here are two of my favourite examples. – at Manhattan, NY

4- This is Daira, we had a chat when she was on “hallway duty” - making sure that everything was going well in the hallways while catching up on homework. She wants to be an astronomer and work at @NASA one day. She likes the school bc “teachers actually CARE about all of us” – at Manhattan, NY

3- They have CS classes & spend a lot of time on applied projects, which involve some coding skill/robotics/creativity/collaboration. “Real world” problem solving. I was so impressed! For other classes, students are encouraged to express their creativity in different ways. – at Manhattan, NY

2- I came across the school last week: I was attending @ldvcapital Vision Summit & some students would raise their hands and ask super smart questions after the talks/panels. I looked them up, got in touch & they invited me to visit the school. I am so grateful for their time ✨ – at Manhattan, NY

Nailed it. One of the best articles I’ve read on a very complex topic, which varies widely depending on profile of students and their families. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Yesterday morning @Google hosted a panel discussion on diversity in the STEM field, and #iMentorNYC students offered insight on engaging students of color! Special thank you to @compsci_high Principal David Noah for speaking on the panel!

Some exciting news: I recently joined the board of @CompSci_High, a new charter school opening in the Bronx this year. This morning we called parents of admitted students to invite them to claim seats; here’s a photo of me in the midst of an accepted offer! #compscihigh
