I became concerned about concussions after my son was concussed during football practice. My primary concern is lack of awareness & oversight.

BREAKING: Study of 20,000 NFL players reveals they die of dementia at 4x the population rate. "To put that in perspective, lead exposure, which is now banned from paint & gasoline in the U.S., leads to a 2-to-3 times greater rate of dementia at death." massgeneralbrigham.org/en/ab…

Today we announced, on behalf of the Kneeland family, that former Dallas Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland has been diagnosed with stage 1 CTE by our research collaborators at @bu_cte. Kneeland died by suicide in November 2025 at 24 years old. Despite playing in the modern era of concussion protocols and better helmets, he still developed CTE. What that tells me is we have no reason to believe the current generation is at a lower risk of CTE than previous generations. Concussion protocols do not prevent CTE, because CTE is caused by repeated head impacts, not just concussions. If we want to reduce CTE risk, we must implement CTE prevention protocols and aggressively reduce the number and strength of head impacts at every level of the game. Suicide is complex and multifactorial. A post-mortem CTE diagnosis should not be considered the cause of a suicide and is not known to be a risk factor for suicide. We encourage anyone worried about suspected CTE symptoms to reach out to he Concussion & CTE Foundation HelpLine team for support at ConcussionAndCTE.org/Helplin…. If you or someone you know is struggling, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by calling or texting 988.

🧵Prediction vs Product. As the '24 season/year closes, a review of the children dead to football: 17 football players died this year. In Aug, 16 deaths were predicted. Predictable as it has been the same for 20+ yrs. Auld Lang Syne, 2025, rinse & repeat for more of the same. 1/5

On one hand we have made some progress, and on the other we’ve lost traction so it’s hard to say if we’ve ended up ahead. If so, not by much.

End of October Friday night football injury tracking means it’s likely we will see a number of life-flights from football fields. It’s likely one of those will lead to at minimum, a life-changing catastrophic injury, or possibly even death. When will we start tracking injuries?

We are closing in on 20 years since #CTE was found outside of boxing. Big Sports has had 20 years to find compelling evidence of another primary cause other than repetitive head impacts. They have yet to propose a SINGLE evidence-based plausible cause. concussionfoundation.org/new…

Sad news: #NFL HOFer Brett Favre announced he has Parkinson's disease at 54. He's also said he believes he has #CTE. Among those w/CTE who had signs of Parkinsonism, only 24% had 'classic' Parkinson's. For 76%, it appears their symptoms are caused by CTE

.@PabloTorre on Tua Tagovailoa's 3rd diagnosed concussion in the NFL: "It is stunning and unprecedented how many people around the game are saying, 'we want this guy to go and save himself.' "I don't remember a response like this—driven by a concern for neurological health—from football guys about one of their colleagues."
