Skeleton Key for postwar US history imo. Take some time to read the descriptions; every detail is pretty revelatory.
The Abbasid Revolutionaries built dual power on such a scale that they were able to completely replace the Syrian base of the caliphate with an Iranic aristocracy. We have much to learn.

Honestly a great pick. The black banners only went up in Khurasan in 747, after roughly 30 years of underground missionary work run out of Kufa and Merv.
I should note that we were talking about this in class, and our prof was like "Is someone slandering my generation?" and my friend was immediately like no we're def not doing that 😭
College friend has a millenial coworker who is possibly the most incredible portrait of the whiny, self-centered millenial stereotype and has what is likely the most cringe Tumblr-ite username on their work Discord. Free Gen Z.
Guess who said the Abbasid Revolution was his favorite revolution in response to the icebreaker at the leftist meeting yesterday

Explain how the killing of two soldiers manning a checkpoint as a part of an illegal military occupation was a “criminal act” please
I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured.
I’ve spoken out loudly this week against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which imposes violence on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. But violence is not the path to ending it — or to achieving safety, freedom, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
And neither is collective punishment or ethnic cleansing of an entire neighborhood, or punishing millions of people for the criminal act of two, which Netanyahu has promised to enact in response.
I’ve seen a lot this week and I’ll have more to say about in the coming days (I’m on my way home shortly). There is a path to ending this excruciating cycle of violence. It starts by insisting that every life is sacred, that everyone is created in God’s image.
For now: Shabbat Shalom, to everyone who believes in the hard work of making peace & justice a reality, for everyone.
Requesting mail-in ballot and remembering how during the summer primaries, I deduced who was the progressive candidate w/o any research purely bc I'd heard an ad saying she would hurt suburban families.
Those trying to brand Sharjeel's thought, which traces back to Jinnah, as Muslim particularist are simply incorrect. It's call for the state to better acknowledge difference & communal rights. This is why the Muslim League supported Dalit electorates & allied w the SCF.
Here's the brilliant Faisal Devji on how the constitution was "a document of conquest" that included the "forcible absorption" of Dalits and tribes into the Hindu fold as well as "the elimination of Muslims and other minorities as political groups."
Sharjeel Imam has brilliantly highlighted how Indian secularism fails to acknowledge difference thru protections for minorities and favors caste Hindus. Liberals trying brand him as a theocratic Islamist or pathologize him only prove his point that they paved the way for the BJP.
Very interesting -- the ideal first-world left coalition will always be between the PMC and the racialized proletariat in the core. The class basis of abolition-democracy, the New Left, and perhaps a 21st century European left.
Online friend who I genuinely believed was dead texted me out of nowhere on Discord w that ghost sound effect (bc of Halloween). Had me genuinely spooked.
Always funny when someone sends you an article notorious in your academic circle and you get jump-scared.
Pretty ridiculous. While I don't agree with everything Sadeghi-Boroujerdi has said, he's repeatedly called out imperialism and also done some of the best work theorizing what exactly the AoR is. Also, it is true that Iran's state & society do remain under severe pressure.
Anyone have any good insta infographics, Twitter threads, or aticles explaining the recent protests in India? Looking for something accessible that an org I run can repost. Thanks!
The ecumenical Bombay-Gujarati mercantile cosmopolis is amazing; it's making me genuinely unable to figure out the religion of this Indian girl I'm co-leading a club w lol.
