In the lead up to COP, we believe it’s essential there be a coherent global plan for ending new fossil fuel financing.

We're officially launching! Our letter for the PM is complete. Thanks to the hundreds of you who have signed so far, and to @friends_earth and @PriceofOil for their advice. Let's end new fossil fuel financing this year! Keep signing up🌎 #cop26cap #keepitintheground #EarthDay

50,000 deaths doesn't get a mention even on the climate page? Something going horribly wrong here. Is the BBC not allowed to report news? Is 50,000 deaths not newsworthy? Please let us know. @dpcarrington @BBCJustinR @ChrisGPackham @ChrisMasonBBC nature.com/articles/s44360-0…

A new study has examined 20,736 scientific publications about climate tipping points. Several of those are estimated to be crossed around 1.5 degrees warming, i.e. any time soon: permafrost thaw, Greenland Ice Sheet, North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre. theconversation.com/some-cli…

Literally off the charts.
That's *somewhere up here*. So far off the charts that it's off the charts.

We are in 'Gob Smackingly Bananas' territory. @BBCJustinR has written compellingly about this historic #ElNino, as government quietly admits carbon emissions from aviation will be 50% higher than thought and supports airport expansion. Kool aid all round.
Err check out the near vertical line, guys… This situation deserves as much attention as the AI threat does if not more as this one is definitely happening….

🚨The most important graph in the world has another 6 months of data!🚨 NASA CERES satellites measure how much sunlight Earth absorbs and how much heat is radiated back to space. The difference is heat accumulation, which has more than tripled over the past 26 years!

Mountain glaciers are losing mass increasingly fast world-wide over the past 75 years in response to #globalwarming. This and permafrost thawing can destabilize mountain sides and cause glacial collapse and flash floods. World Glacier Monitoring Service wgms.ch/global-glacier-state…

Bizarrely this is now being described by @BBCWorld as a ‘flash flood’. Is this trying to normalise climate catastrophe? There are around 200,000 glaciers in the world available for ‘flash floods’. How many are in a similar state? @BBCJustinR bbc.co.uk/news/live/cr0qxd1y…

'But we only produce 1% of world emissions' 'Glaciers have always collapsed' 'Climate has always changed' #ReleaseTheBots 😒
Nepal produces one tenth of one per cent of the world’s emissions and was ranked the 6th most climate-affected country on Earth in 2024. We did this.

Warnings from history.
Ominous conclusion from recent paper on an obscure warming event 304 million years ago. Low latitude warming of 3.5°C, at a rate of a tenth of a degree per thousand years, has potential to trigger catastrophic greenhouse gas release and ecosystem collapse pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.26…

Fossil fuelled disaster. Is that right?
Update: now pretty crystal clear from satellite images where was the glacier rupture site. Exact geocoordinates are 28°17'31.7"N 85°31'25.0"E, it's on the Nepal side right next to the China border. Looks like half a mountain completely collapsed.

What would governments do if tens of thousands of people were killed in an attack overnight? Do we not need to change the language and start calling out climate disasters? ‘Fossil fuelled catastrophe’ would put the blame where it lies at least.
Re Nepal and climate disaster. Since 2023, I have started pretty much all my talks (and I give roughly 1 per week for my sins) with this picture of Derna, Libya. This is still, to my knowledge, the world's single deadliest climate disaster. 10'000-20'000 people killed overnight.

Devastating flash floods hit. Utterly shocking footage appearing to wipe out entire villages and towns.
Devastating flash flood hits Nepal/China border near Rasuwa, sweeps downstream😳😳😳😳

On page 32 there is the most extraordinary thing, missed by all the media it seems. In a media frenzy world hungry for clicks, how did this happen? How could 2 billion deaths be missed? Are editors all on holiday? @BBCJustinR @GeorgeMonbiot actuaries.org.uk/media/ni4er…

This is just a snippet of the huge civilisational changes which are moving towards us. If media cannot even report the threat of #4billiondead we really have reached #DontLookUp
