I wrote 8000 words over the weekend. Nearly finished this book now. Happy dance!

We were lucky enough to hear Poet Laureate Simon Armitage do a reading at St Petroc's in Bodmin last night, not least because afterwards I got him to sign some of my old stock of SA poetry collections - plus his brilliant new version of Gilgamesh. Simon is an excellent reader, and his work is variously funny, playful, deep, experimental, though not afraid to be sentimental at times too, and I enjoyed it immensely. His range is impressive. It made me feel I should be less concerned about whether my own poems are any good, and being frozen into inaction by that worry, and just to write the damn things and send them out to magazines again. (Though the wait times on submissions can be daunting.) I first met Simon over 30 years ago, on an Arvon course he was tutoring, and have followed his progress and read his poetry ever since, and occasionally met him too, but not seen him since Covid hit and the world changed. It was good to catch up last night. If you ever get a chance to hear him live, I can thoroughly recommend it.

Roofers are back. One put his foot through our ceiling yesterday. No comment. I had to point out what they'd done as they were leaving. 'Oh yeah, sorry. We'll fix that tomorrow. Bye.' Radio on full blast again. Salt n Pepa pumping real good. The joys of getting your roof done.
