The cellars of the Houses of Parliament are still searched before the opening of parliament.

5th November 1605
Guido (Guy) Fawkes was caught in the cellars beneath Westminster with thirty-six barrels of gunpowder.
He was part of a plot, led by Robert Catesby to blow up the House of Lords at the opening of Parliament on the 5th November, and to assassinate King James I.
The plot was immortalised in a nursery rhyme:
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.
By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.
And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!

As my wife and I depart the Caribbean, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the people of The Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda for the warmth of their welcome and the many kindnesses they have shown us throughout this tour.
After three nations, four speeches, nine days, over 40 different engagements and countless hands shaken in firm friendship, I return home with so many treasured memories…and one slightly damp suit!

A very popular princess and later queen, Astrid died in a car accident in Switzerland in 1935. She was only 29 or 30 years old.
It was King Charles's 3x great grandfather Grand Duke Constantine Nicholaievich who was partly responsible for the abolition of serfdom in Russia in 1861. See "From Romanov to Windsor" @amberleybooks

The King poked fun at ‘umbrella-gate’ tonight, saying he would be an "umbrella for you all" in a speech to Commonwealth leaders. Fair play to him! ☔️
A wonderful dance routine. One of my all-time favourites.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the extraordinary finale of "Swing Time" (1936), often regarded as their greatest film.
The dance was so challenging that Astaire had Rogers practice for weeks. During filming, they had to perform it over and over until Fred was satisfied.
Rogers later recalled feeling numb. When she took off her shoes, she was horrified to discover that they were full of blood. It was a reminder that behind the graceful, effortless movements audiences saw on screen lay hours of demanding practice and physical strain.

The Commonwealth encompasses 56 countries and 2.7 billion people — united by shared histories, values, and ambitions.
Working together, we can solve greater challenges and deliver more our citizens.
