📢 Working in Particle Physics, Astro, or Nuclear (PPAN) in the UK? You received a survey regarding Early-Career Researchers and impact of STFC cuts on them. If you didn't, PM me. We need as many ECRs to fill it asap, and you could help spread it. If you were, spread it!🧪

The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics goes to John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis — “for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit.” Here's what I understand of their work (experts feel free to chime in) 🧵

Tired of black holes decohering your superpositions? Masses entangled with soft gravitons? Recover (a little) coherence today, in one (carefully controlled) step—*even after you’ve finished your superposition experiment!* With Jonah, @8piGSatish, Bob Wald: arxiv.org/abs/2501.04773

Attention HEP-ph people: I maintain a list of summer schools for students in hep-ph on my website docs.google.com/spreadsheets…) If you know of any I have missed, please let me know. This is particularly useful for people outside of the big US and EU hubs, where word-of-mouth fails

Small🧵on the Big Bang. Sometimes colleagues take the word "initial singularity" serious, but extrapolating classical relativity to energy densities above which we know classical physics to be valid is pointless. Like the divergence in the electric field for a point particle.
Replying to @WKCosmo
For those interested in the question of whether or not there was an initial singularity, have a look at a conversation I had with @bgreene at the World Science Festival last June. It's a deep question. youtu.be/_DMbOtpRSk0?feature…

Dec 19 - Renormalizing Bias Parameters arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/06094… arxiv.org/pdf/0902.0991 McDonald (+ Roy) show the statistical treatment of tracers of DM (such as galaxies) requires renormalization of the bias parameters. They anticipates/discovers the EFT structure found later.
