I get that federal action is hard, but slowing American technological progress in single states to gain concessions from big tech doesn't pay off—just look at Delaware, which now hosts over 60% of Fortune 500 companies. Pragmatism is sorely needed. wired.com/story/new-york-is-…
U.S. cybersecurity firms operate in an environment defined by real threats, real liability, and real consequences for failure. My newest article in @CyberScoopNews argues that this grants the US a competitive advantage: one that we shouldn't ignore in the race to win the AI race.
U.S. global #AI leadership will not be won through Chinese tech scarcity; it must come from Ameria's competitive advantages, sustained international investment, and its firms outcompeting their state-subsidized rivals in security and trust.
A new op-ed by David Wade (@davidwade) and Courtney Manning (@CourtneyfMan) lays out the case for global U.S. cybersecurity dominance: cyberscoop.com/ai-race-china…

The first AI-assisted cyber bombing of critical infrastructure is here, and America is not prepared for what comes next. Read ASP’s new guest post by Dr. Julia Nesheiwat and Courtney Manning.

"How can a single config file failure take down thousands of websites?" Love seeing this graph get more ridiculous all the time
Agentic AI cyberweapons are rapidly becoming the tool of choice for state-sponsored attackers targeting U.S. critical infrastructure—making AI-assisted cyber defense a necessity for homeland defenders.
Both attackers and defenders can wield these tools, but the challenges faced by U.S. infrastructure operators in software modernization and cybersecurity regulation mean that attackers are exploiting vulnerabilities faster than defenders can patch them.
If we don't bolster the defensive capabilities of our domestic infrastructure now, critical national functions will remain at risk of disruption from AI-assisted threat actors.

The CCP floods the web with propaganda, now AI models are absorbing it.
ASP’s latest investigation reveals that even U.S. chatbots sometimes repeat CCP narratives.
What happens when disinformation shapes the tools we rely on?

Thanks, @TonySeruga ! In case you missed it, my team's recent research reveals that CCP propaganda is deeply embedded in U.S. language models. Try it yourself: on a new account, ask any of the big models (except @Grok) about Xi Jinping, the Uyghur genocide, or Tiananmen Square.
🚨 A new American Security Project report reveals a CCP plot to brainwash Americans through America's own technology. Major AI chatbots, including those from Microsoft, ChatGPT, and Gemini, are now echoing the CCP's cognitive warfare. 🚨
The investigation shows these bots censor facts and push CCP-approved lies on sensitive topics like the origin of COVID-19 and the Tiananmen Square Massacre in both English and Chinese.

@TonySeruga Ironically, just typing this tweet with the Grammarly browser extension demonstrates that it, too, is unable to call a spade a spade:
This Friday, I'll be weighing in on the U.S.-China #TariffWar and more at @NewlinesInst, "Future-Proofing U.S. Technology: Strategic Priorities Amid Chinese Tech Advancement," at the Press Club in DC between 1-2pm. Sign up here for virtual/in person! newlinesinstitute.org/event/…
Big fan of this statement @AFergusonFTC wrote in Dec 2024 regarding the potential for Sec 5 overreach in alleged data privacy violations. "If we did a full accounting of [data] that someone might consider sensitive, no useful categorizations would remain." ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov…
And while "sensitive data" is a classification that can be argued all day, this is not even the most important point: "My colleagues want the FTC Act to be a comprehensive privacy law. But it is not.... Congress has not adopted comprehensive privacy legislation."

Our report, the first in a series we're calling Sentinel Briefs, outlines the extensive support and infrastructure provided to #DeepSeek by state agencies, defense contractors, and state-owned digital infrastructure giants: americansecurityproject.org/…
