Lots of interesting tidbits from @ZackMeisel's Guardians' takeaways piece today. This one explains why Williams was not an option for game 6
Also, a lot of players and staff had an upper respiratory infection for the ALCS, unfortunately
Andrew Miller started off the 2016 postseason with 15 scoreless innings, 7 hits, 4 BB and 27 strikeouts. Then he ran out of gas, but that was still the most dominant I have ever seen a reliever. We will see how Ashby finishes this...
Aaron Ashby is putting together arguably the greatest postseason performance by any reliever:
7 games
14 innings
14 strikeouts
0 runs
4 hits
3 walks
From Travis Feldhaus of ESPN research: The record for scoreless relief in any postseason was set by Goose Gossage in 1981, when he had 14 1/3 innings, zero runs allowed.
The Guardians are giving Grant Fink another shot and, as a general rule, I think coaches should get three years to show their abilities.
But we should not ignore that these are the Guardians' BABIP, BA, OBP, SLG, wOBA, xWOBA and wRC+ since Fink took over. Terrible so far:
John Smoltz is wrong, incompetent and actively makes the experience of watching baseball games worse for fans
I somehow missed that the Rays tried to trade Caminero for Ohtani

Smoltz my man I got some news about Trevor Megill: he was not once a starter for the Mets

MLB literally admits that a salary cap wouldn’t change the thing they claim to be standing up for on behalf of “fans” (outcome based competitive balance) 😂😂😂
Competitive balance sits at the heart of the fight that will soon shut down MLB. So @TheAthletic took a deep dive into what the state of parity in MLB really is.
@enosarris ran the numbers, the league and union were interviewed — and two takeaways stood out.

Are the Guardians going to trade Steven Kwan?

Not directed at Al here, but Lowe's stats with the Guardians:
Lowe's slashline after getting traded here: .226/.276/.376
Lowe's playoff slashline here: .243/.349/.297
Also, poor defense. Not sure why they'd even consider re-signing him

on the left side - interested to see what they do with manzardo and if the consider bringing lowe back
Man, wanna depress yourself? Take a look at potential trade or free agent targets for the Guardians who are right-handed hitters. Bleak.
This season has really revealed to me how many baseball fans lack any sense of shame
Buddy... if Vogt didn't go 10-3 against the Tigers, we never would have made the ALCS. So, I am glad you enjoyed him handing you your lunch

Use tigers fans are very glad Vogt is back as well. He uses Cade sooooo well😂😂😂😂
So happy Vogt is returning
Really wish they'd consider making an outside hire for at least one high level hitting coach position but oh well.
Thrilled Carl Willis is leaning toward continuing, also.
A very good day
Stephen Vogt: "I'm coming back."
Carl Willis, too.
Vogt discusses the challenges of living apart from his family (who reside an hour outside of Seattle, where the Mariners are seeking a new manager), but explains why "I'll be in Cleveland":

Stephen Vogt was asked directly about his status and the rumors connecting him to the Mariners' managerial opening during the Guardians end-of-season media availability today.
“I'll be in Cleveland,” Vogt said. “I'm here. I'm coming back.”
