Em dashes can be very useful!
From Publication Manual (7th ed.) Section 6.6: "Use an em dash to set off an element added to amplify or digress from the main clause."
But note, "overuse of the em dash weakens the flow of material, so use it judiciously."

Choir is not “lesser than” our education system’s classified core subjects. Teach it with the same importance as you would math or history. Advocate for its value in the development of our students personal and academic lives.

Once no American school of music feels the need to confer degrees in music upon students who are not proficient music readers (in order to make their financial ends meet,) THEN we can have a reasonable conversation about our “over emphasis on music reading and notation.”

Keep up with inflation on pay scale.
Hold students accountable for behavior.
Admin assumes the teacher is right when parents complain about discipline or grades.
Remove all professional development requirements that DON’T relate to the content area and its pedagogy.

Asking for more volume can end up wearing out a singer’s voice if they push too much. Teaching them how to create a resonant sound, at every dynamic level, can help that strain.
