@CrambAmy is running participants through a study based on the Flashed Face Distortion Effect we discovered in 2011: Differences in features like forehead size, or distance between the eyes, when seen in the context of others faces are exaggerated. youtube.com/watch?v=VT9i99D_…

Protocol analysis tasks (think-aloud procedures) are useful for understanding how people analyse tasks in real time. Applying this to fingerprint expertise, we seek to understand how novices and experts think differently as they decide whether two prints match or not.

We've developed ten fingerprint tasks for our Creating Perceptual Expertise experiment. 'Spot the Difference' presents two identical prints with a small section altered in one. Participants then try to locate the difference between the prints as quickly as they can.

How does fingerprint distortion impact fingerprint decisions? @AusFedPolice discussed issues around print distortion, technological tools for investigating distortion, and what information experts need to consider for decision-making.
