Jordan Belfort, ordered to repay his victims $110,400,000, says he chose an FBI wire over 30 years in prison. When it was time to record a close friend, he warned him with a note: "I'm wired." The friend betrayed him and handed the note to the FBI.
In the video below, he explains what that note cost him.
The movie showed the money he made. It skipped the money people lost.
Stratton Oakmont had over 1,000 brokers cold-calling ordinary people. They pushed cheap stocks Stratton secretly controlled, the price went up, and insiders sold at the top. The clients were left holding shares that soon were worth almost nothing.
1,513 people lost an estimated $200,000,000. By 2013, they had gotten back about $11,000,000, most of it from selling property the government seized.
Belfort wasn't the only one talking. His partner Danny Porush, the man Jonah Hill's character is loosely based on, was cooperating too. The prosecutor said the government needed both of them, "but to do so separately without each other's knowledge."
After that note, Belfort says, he stopped protecting anyone. One of the men he helped prosecutors build a case against was Steve Madden, the man behind one of America's best-known shoe brands.
Stratton took Madden's company public in 1993. The SEC said Belfort secretly kept a big stake in it through a fake sale of his shares to a company Madden owned.
Madden also helped Stratton rig 22 IPOs. He got shares before the public, sold them back to Stratton at a set profit, and Stratton's brokers resold the same shares to clients at higher prices.
He had to give back $5,183,450 and pay a $1,000,000 fine.
Madden had been Porush's best friend since childhood. He was sentenced to 41 months and served about 31. Belfort served 22.
Madden later said Belfort "ratted me out to save himself."
Last year, the company with his name on it brought in $2,534,000,000.
Belfort tried to save one friend and got sold out. He didn't try to save his partner's best friend, and that man's name is still on shoe boxes across America.
Imagine launching on @ponsdotfamily but they take 60-70% of fees and you keep the rest😂😂😂

Let’s revisit each time attention shifted away from PumpFun
we get some of the biggest runners in the trenches
• CASHCAT
• AI
• STONK
• ZCAT
• MASK
• BONER
• PONS
• MARSCOIN
to name a few
Even ZC on Ethereum reached $50M before the team rugged on a random launchpad
Meanwhile Kimchi one of PumpFun’s biggest promotional pushes, couldn’t even take his own coin to $50M despite his massive reach and backing and “aura”
At some point you have to question the ecosystem you’re participating in
PumpFun has built a model that thrives on:
• Constant new launches that pnd
• Influencers incentivized to promote PF tokens
• Liquidity continuously rotating between new pairs
• Trading volume regardless of whether anyone actually makes money
Think about the incentives
PumpFun profits from trading activity, not from your bags appreciating
A token going to $100M and establishing a strong holder base isn’t nearly as important to their business model as thousands of traders constantly rotating between new launches spamming volume
And the people promoting these launches have financial incentives that aren’t necessarily aligned with yours
Yet traders keep following the same accounts into the same launches, expecting different results .. like please wake up
Some of the best opportunities we’ve had came when liquidity and attention escaped this absolute hell of an ecosystem
Maybe the problem isn’t that the trenches are dead or that nobody wants to buy memecoins anymore
it’s because we’re just directing all our liquidity towards an ecosystem that benefits more from extracting it than growing it
Prioritise robinhood coins
Prioritise stonk coins
Prioritise BNB coins
Just try to stop feeding this fucking machine defined to drill us otherwise known as @Pumpfun
How it should be
the crypto space needs to highlight more stories from people who have gone from $0 to making enough money to quit their job and take care of their families
I dont understand why every single success story is about buying a super car, an expensive watch, and taking private flights
the entire point of all of this is to buy freedom for you and your loved ones, and many of the people buying expensive shit can’t afford it and are doing it just to flex on the internet
yet those are the people who get glazed the hardest
give me more feel good stories of someone who retired their parents, quit a 9-5 and never has to work again, or bought a modest house in cash
that’s what we really need more of
Another class A example of why the space is cooked
You have the OG meta coin

And it’s getting vamped by

All because it has a 600 x boost
It’s fucked, the whole space Is fucked
All because we allow it
Let that sink in
