What should Limoges do with their town hall? 1 Rebuild it as was? 2 Rebuild as an 'honest' modernist building? 3 Leave it as an 'honest' ruin (the National Trust approach) 4 Rebuild it even bigger & better & more beautiful?

Why is the Chrysler Building so great I ask for @Telegraph? The Platonic ideal of an art deco skyscraper & a temple to the motor car. Stylised hubcaps, fenders and hoods encrust the façade. American eagles, new-world gargoyles, glare out protectively at the 61st floor. Above …

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the world’s greatest shopping arcade. It gets everything right: location, innovation & beautification. Linking Milan’s Duomo with her opera house, La Scala, it brilliantly deploys Victorian glass & iron know-how to span soaring distances…

In case you missed it, SOME GOOD NEWS !!!
Approved! The Mayor of London has greenlit Shoreditch Works, delivering an important symbolic win for urban regeneration, jobs, beauty and new homes. Huge credit to Linea Properties Ltd for pushing this forward and we dare to hope that we at Create Streets helped with our groundbreaking Visual Preference Survey. This proved that the public overwhelmingly backs beautiful, dense design. Our research with @DeltapollUK showed an undeniable 76% to 78% public approval rating—demonstrating that the public support architecture that is public-friendly. From features in City A.M. to deep-dives in the Wall Street Journal, the press has highlighted this scheme as the blueprint for how British capital can grow while keeping the public firmly on its side. This is how we build a better London! 🚀🏙️ You can …

A lot to love about Lincoln
I very highly recommend visiting the UK's great cathedrals, e.g. Lincoln and Durham. I did so earlier this year and find myself reminiscing about them quite frequently. Some of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

It’s so heartbreaking…
The sad west doorway of St Ignatius, Salford for #ADoorableThursday. By Darbyshire & Smith, 1900, closed and deconsecrated by the Diocese of Manchester at the start of this century. Conversion into a community resource was begun, but the building is now boarded up and decaying.

Make it bigger, better and more beautiful with more bedrooms. (This type of beautiful and popular intensification should be pre-approved by right by councils for millions of new streets). The good news is that THIS IS ALREADY LEGAL. Here is...

I've been through Paddington station a lot recently. The renovation is lovely (left) - though it is ruined by the building opposite as you exit (right). It's the opposite of the Lee Kuan Yew doctrine. If we could demolish, rebuild, and make beautiful *one* building in London I would make it this one. Think about all the tourists or business travellers from Heathrow step out at Paddington to see London for the first time. This is what they're greeted with. The irony is this land is obviously really valuable and there's no way it wouldn't have been redeveloped by its owners without the Town and Country Planning Act. A market in land use would have fixed this problem. But however it's done. Knock down this building and replace it with something impressive.

Good can be very, very simple. A wall with three holes. The deep window & door reveals, the load-bearing brick walls, the generous & large windows, the sash windows, all elevate the simple into the delightful. Needless to say recent malign changes in British building regulations would make this much harder to build today. You can ….

Wide roads & faceless towers. How to diminish place-appeal in one image.
Here's a real welcome to @Bristol. I suppose the planners will be backing this Soviet-era monstrosity. Anyone who sees this will no doubt do the full St James Barton roundabout and head out again. bristol247.com/news-and-feat…

Because the classic K2 and K6 red kiosks are beautiful and much loved, we keep them in use, finding creative new purposes for them: libraries, defibrillator stations, art galleries, museums and coffee shops and, yes, even as props for tourists to pose beside. Yet planning restrictions remain a barrier to enabling listed phone boxes to receive a new lease of life. To those at @mhclg who want to do something about this, I recommend reading...
Miraculously this defunct phone box where huge lines of tourists queue up to have their pictures taken with views of Big Ben has finally been repaired.
