S&P Global Ratings is now grading DeFi vaults. @SPGlobalRatings @SPGlobal
Its new Vault Risk Assessment (VRA) gives crypto lending vaults a forward-looking grade from AAA(v) to D(v). The grade reflects the risk that depositors' positions get impaired.
How the grade is built :
1️⃣ Portfolio credit quality - the collateral and the infrastructure behind it
2️⃣ Modifiers - curator quality and liquidity mismatch
3️⃣ Caps - blockchain, protocol and vault security. The weakest layer sets the ceiling.
4️⃣ Final grade, then ongoing monitoring
It's not a credit rating, and it says nothing about yield.
Transaction transparency shows what a vault did. Risk transparency asks what it could do next.
