I am Akarshan Kumar, the founder of @CredibleAI, and in this video I wanted to give you a peek into why we are building what we are building.
I started my career at Microsoft, then I led multiple product launches at Twitter including that of the heart button. /1

🎄We just launched on ShowHN - @CredibleAI's chrome extension now works directly on Hacker News itself.
We'd love your feedback:

🔍🟢 ICYMI, @ycombinator just added @credibleai annotations to all of its @hackernews posts - which can give you insights into the reliability, bias, and citations for what you're reading.
The Credible team also has a @googlechrome extension, backed by @GoogleAIStudio Gemini!

credibility on the internet. In a few years we’ll think it was crazy that we had a scattershot, disconnected internet where five billion people had to run around to “do their own research” on everything they came across online.

super useful to read these stories with @CredibleAI's extension dubi.ai - you get to see just how much of a mix of facts, opinions and claims so many regular reports can be.

The Trump-Musk saga got me thinking: how much of what we scrolled past was real, and how much was just noise designed to keep us hooked?
If you're also feeling like the internet could be a whole lot better – more honest, more genuine – then you're not alone.
That's the core of why I'm building.
This weekend, if you've got a moment, I'd love for you to check out what we @CredibleAI are working on with our first product:
➡️ dubius.ai | Spot the spin, fast.
Let's not just accept the internet as it is. Let's build the one we want.
Have a thoughtful weekend.

look, we have a serious problem.
I remember the first time the ring of the 56k modem rang through on my computer as a kid in the early 2000s - the Internet connected us with a global collective and profoundly changed our lives.
we are now in a situation where that same Internet has turned into a inferno of rage bait and clickbait, 'misinformation' and disinformation, and all the shades in between. dark patterns and anti-patterns galore.
somewhere along the way, the genuine excitement, the earnestness, and the ingenuity of the Internet, got overtaken by a different profit-maximizing imperative, which was inevitable. Instead of truly connecting people, maxing out our dopamine became the goal because that’s what got you stakeholder return. Instead of trying to find common ground, pushing exaggerated narratives became the algorithmic choice because that’s what got the most eyeballs. Instead of building a foundational experience that would endure generations, chasing quarterly company KPI’s became paramount.
worse, we have been beaten into def-facto accepting this. LinkedIn sneaks in advertising disguised as inbox message notifications and we don’t bat an eye. our emails are primarily full of spam and that is the expectation, not the exception.
open Instagram reels, YT shorts or Snapchat stories, and it is thumbnail after thumbnail of semi-naked guys and girls twirling on-screen. Fake news evaporates billions in market cap instantly and it’s just another day for us online.
record-high depression rates
record-high cell phone addiction
record-high substance issues
record-high spam
record-high online fraud
is this what we envisioned? are we okay with this?
is this the Internet we want to hand to our children, our parents, our grandparents?
I don't mean this as some kind of weird Silicon Valley navel-gazing. we all had our part to play in this - myself included.
but that doesn’t mean that we can’t find a better path forward. we can choose to take responsibility.
I believe we will do better. we owe it to ourselves, we owe it to society and we owe it to our families.
with that in mind I am starting @CredibleAI, a company that will trigger a movement towards a better, more trusted Internet.
what may seem like a big mission - and ambitious as it might be - can also be a very doable one, if the right people with the right set of values align with it.
I think it’s time we take earnest steps towards seriously thinking about the foundations of this new Internet. like a house from the ground up, it requires us paving brick by brick the house that we do want to live in.
Several years ago, when I shared with a professor that I was joining Twitter, he said:
"you are not joining a company, you are joining a movement."
I hope I can have you join this movement.
More to come soon:
