Holy shit! Lawrence O'Donnell is reporting on the absolute catastrophe, horror, and chaos caused by the devastating attack that destroyed the U.S. Naval base in Bahrain.
Operating in total secrecy — like all fascist authoritarian tyrannies — the Trump regime has blocked war correspondents from entering the area to report on what truly happened and the terror that ensued. Until now, threats of retribution against U.S. service members by the administration have kept everyone silent.
Despite their clear responsibility to safely evacuate families and children from the base, the regime failed miserably, leaving families and children still displaced. This shocking failure underscores the utter incompetence of Trump and Pete Hegseth, both of whom continue to blatantly lie to the American people about the unfolding war with Iran.

Long-term thinking changes your short-term actions.
-When you intend to invest long-term, it changes which stocks you buy.
-When you intend to be in a relationship long-term, it changes the type of person you look for.
-When you intend to stay injury-free for the long term, it changes the type of workouts you do.

Doug Ford and the @OntarioPCParty government continue their on-going assault on local democracy.
Now they are refusing to swear in democratically elected school trustees throughout the province.
NEW: The Ford government says trustees in supervised school boards “will not be sworn in” immediately after next week's election.
The province is asserting its power to call meetings in eight boards and trustees will only take their oath when the meeting is officially called.
No timeline for when that will happen.

Do Covid infections weaken the immune system making you more vulnerable to other infections?
Even covid infections that seem mild and don't kill you during the acute stage?
Here's deaths caused by 'other viral diseases' as a share of all deaths here:

Wearing a mask is about the same level of hardship as being expected to wear high heels and an underwire bra so I am not surprised that so many men cannot handle it.

1) A good CO2 reading can mean less Covid in the air, not Covid-free air
2) HEPAs are not bug zappers—they remove virus over time, but close-range transmission can happen before air reaches the unit & passes through the filter

My husband and I just checked our voter registration, here in Texas. We have been suspended. They said they got returned mail and so they suspended us. I call bullshit and voter suppression. How do we know we didn’t get mail they sent us, we DIDN’T GET IT! We just voted /1

ALT A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Blue and Green are outside, as Green frowns at an unwelcome noise. Green: Ugh, someone's watching videos on full volume. Green turns to Blue, who calmly hands him a pair of earbuds. Green: Do you have my spare earbuds? Blue: Here. Taking the earbuds, Green starts swinging them by the end of the wire like a slungshot. As he lets them loose, they hit the video-watching stranger on the back of the head with enough force to startle them and drop the phone.

This study should be retracted for a conclusion not supported by their own work:
❌Their claim: "HEPA filters don't work"
✅Claim actually supported by their study: "HEPA filters, sized much smaller than experts recommend, and not confirmed to be ON all the time, didn't provide a benefit"
Here's why:
HEPA FILTER SIZING
❌ they used a device with a CADR of <100 for the common area and <40 for bedroom
✅ To hit the air change target *minimum* where we would expect to see a benefit, you need CADR of 300 for every 500 sqft.
(I can't calculate air exchanges b/c they don't publish room sizes, just CADR, *which is an immediate tip-off that they don't know what they're doing*. The study is so deep on epi, so these folks are detail oriented, but the fact they leave out some basic building science is really telling. They also don't report on BASELINE HVAC PERFORMANCE AND FILTRATION?!?!?! WHAT?!?!
HEPA USE
❌ There were 5 filters in the communal area and they defined COMPLIANCE as 3 of 5 running (?!) and COMPLIANCE as filters being on at **20%** of the checks (?!)
✅ Um, for filtration devices to have any effect they...need to be turned on...
ALSO:
-"We have got one client which goes around and turns the one off that he sits nearest to"
-"a resident urinated in the air filter"
-"Interviewees reported that sometimes staff switched off or moved the HEPA filters"
-11% of residents had other HEPA filters (some were in the **control** arm...!)
MY BIGGER CONCERN:
This is 1 of at least 3 studies I know of that are coming out where the team has no apparent expertise on the air quality side of the house (plenty of MDs and epis...), that *under-sized* the filtration relative to what experts would recommend, and then don't confirm the air filtration was even running continuously, and then claim "they don't work"
This is very disappointing — a large, robust, cluster-randomized trial in UK nursing homes found little evidence of benefit of air filtration on respiratory tract infections on these vulnerable residents, published in @JAMAInternalMed. Commentary below notes real world…

One more nail in the coffin of the "it's just deconditioning" hypothesis.
60 days of strict bed rest ≠ #LongCOVID or #MECFS.
@RobWust group shows that while exercise capacity may be similarly reduced, the underlying skeletal muscle biology is VERY different.
More than time to move beyond outdated assumptions.
Join us at the inaugural @ISLCPAIS conference in Amsterdam next month, where Rob will be our host :)
1/10 I am incredibly proud to share our latest study, published today in @NatureComms, a follow-up to our 2024 paper on skeletal muscle abnormalities in long COVID. Open access:
