Binance hot wallets lost ~$6.28B across 8 chains today. $6.07B went in the first 55 minutes, and the attacker kept re-sweeping one Ethereum wallet for two more hours.
Since then Tether, Circle, Ripple, Paxos, World Liberty and Binance have frozen ~$2.80B. About $3.27B can still move, mostly BTC and ETH.
I traced it all on-chain, including how the attacker raced the freezes 🧵

This release focuses on making the node more robust during chain reorganizations, improving synchronization reliability, and solidifying the UTXO-Z storage layer.

This release strengthens chain reorganizations, synchronization, and the storage foundation behind the node.
Highlights:
🔄 Chain reorganizations: undo records, block disconnection, and switching to a higher-work branch, backed by end-to-end tests covering restarts and failure paths.
🗂️ UTXO-Z 1.0.0: geometry 4, with the 48-byte storage class split across eight shards.
🛡️ Validation and persistence: full validation after the IBD checkpoint, BIP30 duplicate-coinbase handling, and stronger consistency between headers, blocks, and the UTXO set.
🌐 More reliable synchronization: improved peer fallback, block-announcement handling, and progress when the chain tip advances.
🔌 Orderly RPC shutdown. Full UTXO compaction is now explicit offline maintenance instead of part of every shutdown.
⚠️ Storage compatibility: databases using the older UTXO-Z 0.x format require rebuilding with a fresh IBD.

UTXO-Z is a purpose-built database for Bitcoin Cash’s UTXO set - designed specifically for the real access patterns of lookups, inserts, and deletes, instead of relying on a general-purpose store.
What’s new in v1.0.0:
- Eight-way sharding of the 48-byte storage class, with parallel batch inserts and per-request outcomes
- Explicit on-disk format checks, plus database census and uniqueness verification tools
- Validated through a full IBD with Knuth Node — built for real workloads, not just benchmarks
- Breaking storage format: existing databases must be rebuilt from the chain (no in-place migration)
