NYT: The U.S. and Israeli militaries have developed specific plans for renewed strikes against Iran after the American midterm elections, according to U.S. officials and other people briefed on the deliberations. As planning for a short but intensive operation progresses, the U.S. and Israeli militaries have stepped up exercises, flying planes over Iraq to practice strike maneuvers. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel this week to discuss new strikes, U.S. officials said.

This is inaccurate. The U.S. Department of State issued an ordered departure for non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members in Saudi Arabia only. Iranian-supported Houthis have increasingly engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The safety and security of Department personnel and their families remain our highest priority, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to protect and support them.

Iran has little hope that current talks yield progress--instead, it is preparing for US escalation, which it sees as likely. Araghchi also issues a thinly veiled threat: any escalation "will put civilian lives and the wellbeing of all regional states and the global economy at great risk." ft.com/content/61bf9676-ea46…

Broadly suspected but now confirmed.
Per @Liz_Friden The U.S. is sending the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East, two U.S. officials confirm to Fox News. The ships will arrive in the Middle East by the end of November, the officials said. These new deployments will add about 10,000 Sailors and Marines to the Middle East. The USS Roosevelt will be the third aircraft carrier in the Middle East, joining the USS George H.W. Bush which arrived to the region in April, and the USS George Washington which arrived in mid-August to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln. This will provide more options for the U.S. as President Trump is reportedly considering ramping up strikes on Iran after the Midterms.  The USS Roosevelt departed its home port of San Diego on Sunday and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployed from San Diego on Monday along with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group. The Marine Expeditionary Unit and Amphibious Ready Group typically include about 4,200 Marines and Sailors. The USS Roosevelt carrier strike group includes about 6,000 Sailors.

🇺🇸The US security role in the Middle East is “not a commitment to open seas and open trade at any cost,” @USAMBTurkiye told the #Doha Security Forum today. Asked whether the oil-for-security bargain had ended, Barrack said: “It hasn’t ended. It’s transitioning.” “We’re not leaving,” he added, but regional countries can no longer rely on Washington to solve all their security problems.

This, pretty much, captures the current situation in & around the Strait of #Hormuz.
A few facts on the ground: -Iran is shooting at ships transiting the strait and is hitting quite a few (how many, it is hard to say, with the UKMTO admitting many attacks are going unreported and cannot be verified). -a handful of these ships are stopped or disabled by Iranian fire; two have sunk; the rest continue their transits. -the US-supported escort system has had considerable success increasing traffic through the strait; flows from the region as a whole are close to prewar levels, but oscillate on a week-to-week basis. -the recovering flows have not brought down front month or prompt prices, owing to 1) continued high demand, 2) very high shipping costs related to the attacks, 3) lack of confidence in reliability of supply, incentivizing buyers to spend a premium on prompt barrels. -while there is mounting evidence to suggest escalation is likely, diplomacy continues, with each side communicating to the other via mediators. -both the US (watching flows) and Iran (watching prices) have a reason to hold to their position and resist offering concessions. As a result, a deal appears very unlikely (though that could change quickly, if either side shifts their position).
