Cal-Maine, the dominant egg producer, wants to use the monopoly profits it has extracted though inflated egg prices to buy a breakfast food manufacturer. This is a merger that should be blocked. fooddive.com/news/cal-maine-…

I'm teaching databases this semester at Berkeley. My students all seem unusually brilliant. Not many go to office hours, and not too many folks post on the course forum asking project questions. Weirdly, the exam had the lowest recorded average in my 10 semesters teaching it.

This was one of the of most insane monopolization schemes I've ever uncovered: Two secretive European companies rolled up every alternative supplier of egg-laying hens to American egg producers between 2010 and 2021—and have spent the past three years cashing in: raising hen prices on the back of high egg prices, throttling the supply of hens to egg producers to keep shortages going, and extracting billions in windfall profits along the way.
And now comes part two of the BIG investigative series by @musharbash_b on egg market consolidation. This part is on the two creepy European firms who are the barons of chicken genetics. And yes, private equity is involved in hiking your egg prices. thebignewsletter.com/p/fowl-…

In the university library. I just saw a student loudly announce "I need to lock in". He then proceeded to remove an entire cake from his bag and eat it over the course of the next ~15 minutes.

"Pokemon that were good in an Urshifu dominated Meta were good vs Urshifu"
Quite simple: When you think about how to stop Urshifu the meta already stops it: Amoonguss, Raging Bolt, Rillaboom, WaterPon, Flutter Mane and Tornadus with the right spread just to name a few (and I'm not considering Restricteds). When you think about META answers to stop Sneasler the only reliable one is Gholdengo, with Corviknight being a nice side solution in some contexts, but for example Dengo is constantly pinned by Kingambit/Chomp, walled by Magmar or Electabuzz and in general annoyed by many more things played alongside Sneasler. In all the other cases you are never safe, your Pokemon might go to sleep in any moment. I understand that America is the land of "think outside the box" but I REFUSE to play Galarian Weezing just because of all problems (why not, Urshifu included) GF thought that damn Tapu Fini had to go straight to hell for no reason.

sneasler propagates a fundamental VGC mechanic (status). urshifu negates a fundamental mechanic (protect). sneasler is very good for the game and urshifu is very bad for the game the only mon that might be worse for the game than urshifu is tapu fini, and it's by this same logic

Let me put this into perspective. Most TCG league had 0 interest in hosting VG events so far. This was compensated by individual professors hosting VG events outside of leagues. These Professor might no longer do this. You VG scene depends on local leagues adopting VG …🧵
Confirmed in our League email that the new #PlayPokemon season (24/25) does indeed start on July 1st! Interesting one for my VG friends, local events are now "Challenges" and "Cups" just like with TCG and GO. Curious if they'll change anything else about locals?

at 6'07 and 269 lbs, do you think Mewtwo could beat LeBron in a game to 21?

Pokemon Showdown is currently down due to a technical issue on our provider's end. This means we can't do anything about it but wait for them to fix it. There is no ETA on when it will be fixed
