Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
- revoked the affected address authorisation;
- engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.
Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions.

An Open Letter to Alex Eala
Dear Alex,
As an ardent fan and admirer, I write to you not in disappointment, but in deep respect for the hard work, dedication, and passion you have shown on the court. Every match you play, whether in triumph or in setback, reminds us of the courage it takes to carry the hopes of a nation at just 21 years old.
Losses in Singapore, the Asian Games, and now Wuhan may feel heavy, but they do not define you. They are chapters in the larger story of your journey — a journey built on resilience, discipline, and the refusal to give up. Champions, even the greatest, have faced slumps. What sets them apart is the wisdom to regroup, the humility to learn, and the fire to rise again.
You have already proven you belong among the world’s best. From Wimbledon to Washington, you showed us the brilliance of your game and the strength of your spirit. That same spirit will carry you forward. Consult your mentors, lean on your team, and trust in the preparation that has brought you this far.
We, your supporters, believe in you. We see not just a tennis player, but a symbol of Filipino pride — resilient in adversity, humble in success, and relentless in pursuit of excellence.
Alex, keep fighting. Keep dreaming. Keep believing. The next victory is waiting, and we will be here, cheering you on every step of the way.
With admiration and hope,
An ardent fan

Blood inevitably boils when you hear about an NSA that just last year spent P2 billion to host a tournament but cannot give its athletes the meager allowances that make them train and compete without going into debt and hunger #commentary #AsianGames
