Two years ago today, Asteroid left Earth.
On September 10, 2024, Polaris Dawn launched. Inside the capsule was the Shiba Liv designed — a small orange dog in a spacesuit she named Asteroid so other kids would see him float and believe they could reach for the stars too.
She was in remission when he flew.
Less than a month later, the cancer came back.
She still got to watch her drawing become real. She still got to send a piece of herself into orbit before the next fight started. That was Liv. She never waited for perfect conditions to give something away.
Two years later, Asteroid is SpaceX’s official mascot. Liv is our guiding star. And the promise she asked us to keep is still the work: help kids like her, one family at a time.
If a stuffed dog can go to space, they can too.
She believed that while she was well.
She believed it after the scans changed.
We still believe it.💫🚀

Two years ago today, Polaris Dawn launched and they released Liv’s Asteroid video.
The @PolarisProgram tag still says “In honor of Liv P.”
The @SpaceX mascot tag says “In memory of Liv P.”
She was here to watch Asteroid fly with Polaris Dawn.
She was gone before he became the SpaceX mascot.
Her name is still on both.

Amazing update! Thanks to this incredible audience, @SpaceX has just fulfilled another one of Liv Perrotto's final wishes.
I spoke with her mother @rebeccaperrotto earlier this year, and she shared the list of questions that Liv planned to ask @elonmusk just days before she passed away from cancer. After this audience made that post go viral, @elonmusk answered every one of them, including whether he would make Asteroid, the space-loving Shiba Inu she designed, the mascot for SpaceX.
Well now, SpaceX has just added an official plush of Asteroid to their website!
YOU played a huge role in bringing Liv's story to light and making this happen. Thank you!

Elon Musk on why SpaceX must win in AI. 🤖🚀
"We must succeed on the software front."
Musk says SpaceX's AI future depends on three things:
• AI hardware on the ground
• AI software
• AI satellites powered by solar energy
He also says Terafab will play an important role in building that future.
But the most important part, according to Musk, is Grok.
"We're going to be training Grok on the sum total of all space information."
Musk describes SpaceX as the "parents" of the AI—saying Grok will inherit the thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and values of the people who build it.
And his biggest message is simple:
"We must win on AI."
Because Musk believes the future will be overwhelmingly dominated by AI and robots.
The goal isn't just to build the smartest AI.
It's to build an AI with the right values—and make sure it helps humanity move forward. 🤖🌍🚀

SpaceX is getting very close to building the first serious base on the Moon
Starship changes the entire equation
It is designed to deliver up to 100 tonnes directly to the lunar surface - enough to transport habitats, rovers, power systems, construction equipment and everything needed to begin building a permanent outpost
Then the other pieces come together
Tesla Optimus robots could eventually unload cargo, assemble structures, move equipment and perform dangerous construction work before large human crews arrive
Building a base mostly with humans is a serious limitation
Humans need life support, pressurized habitats, spacesuits, oxygen, food and protection just to survive and work on the lunar surface
But with Tesla Optimus, that equation changes entirely
Tesla’s experience with solar energy, batteries, autonomous vehicles and large-scale manufacturing can support the power and transportation systems required on the Moon
SpaceX provides transportation
Tesla provides energy, autonomy and robotics
Starship provides the scale
Suddenly building a serious base on the Moon becomes dramatically easier
And once that infrastructure is ready, humans can stay for much longer periods and eventually even routine private lunar missions and tourism become possible
Once the first permanent lunar outpost is established, its usefulness will compound rapidly.....supporting science, resource development, communications and deeper missions into space
The Moon could become humanity’s first true outpost beyond Earth
