Phew😅These two 36-day-old #curlew chicks narrowly escaped the mower’s blades thanks to a thermal drone rescue. Soon, they’ll be airborne. A big shout-out to our #farmingheroes FarmingUK. 📷 Reach out if you suspect chicks in the grass before cutting – our drone is on standby!
🚜All the wrong kind of drama today... Picture this: fields with curlew chicks hiding being cut for silage! Enter Bruce, our cool curlew champion contractor. With a thermal drone, and a crew of fabulous farmers and volunteers, a dashing (sic) rescue was orchestrated. 1/
Huge sigh of relief as this 4-week old chick was released to live another day. 😅 It's got a fortnight until flight. 🚀🤞#FarmingHeroes #Thankyou to our #famers. Please get in touch if you suspect chicks before cutting - we can try to catch chicks and use the drone to help too.
Heartbreaking news- an intense storm (40 mm) while one of our #curlew families was hatching.
All the chicks died of exposure, one in the egg. Poor Mum couldn’t keep them dry and warm. She lost her first nest this year to a stoat and all her chicks in the previous 2 years to fox
However, we'll keep on doing all we can to help. Had we not found these nests there's every chance they would have been lost to silage cutting.
To every one of the farmers 🚜we work with, thank you - you are all fantastic and great curlew supporters.
To everyone who helps, bird ringers, gamekeepers, fieldworkers, supporters on facebook, & those who simply believe in our mission — thank you. Together, we do all we can to hold on to curlews in our valleys for our children. You can support our work too 🙏justgiving.com/curlewrecover…

Yes, your dog. Your sweet, non-aggressive and curious dog is a threat to wildlife - and so are you.
This message is almost completely absent from outdoor recreation messaging, and instead the public is told that farmers and gamekeepers are the real problem.
