While preparing a presentation for NSF Program Officers about Broader Impacts, I came across this quote by Ken Blanchard that encapsulates the beauty of a STEM research center! "None of us is as smart as all of us." #ResearchCommunity #STEM #BroaderImpacts #ResearchLeadership

What approach do you take to analyzing data? I’ve tried: 1️⃣ Writing the paper as I analyze the data: + Gets the paper drafted quickly, - Lots of time editing, rearranging, and removing rabbit trails. 2️⃣ Illustrating notes as I analyze the data (✨new✨): + More fun, allows me to identify the most informative data points BEFORE I start to write, - Lots of time exploring the data and not writing. Which approaches do you prefer to use when evaluating a dataset?

It's been a pleasure working with @vicatal and the working group of the Sustainability and Systems Thinking in Chemistry Education (STICE) IUPAC project! Check out the educational resources we created on how to plan, implement, and assess STICE 👇 sastice.com/teaching-chemist…
If you are interested in incorporating more systems thinking into your chemistry teaching, check the resources developed by the SaSTICE project from IUPAC: Website (sites.google.com/view/sastic…) and YouTube Channel (youtube.com/watch?v=-ZX2S049…)

I've been asked to design a seminar about non-traditional STEM career paths!  If you have any insights that you wish you had access to as a grad student, or if you have any questions about the career path I have chosen, I would love to hear from you. #STEM #academia #research

To all the science teachers out there, your work is not unnoticed. You are shaping the scientists of tomorrow, and for that, we thank you. I'm reading through personal statements from prospective Undergraduate Researchers to #MONETCCI (monetcci.org/ure) Summer Program. I was overjoyed at how many of our applicants credit their high school science teachers for sparking their interest in the field. It's a beautiful reminder of educators' profound impact on their students' lives and career paths. These efforts in #BroadeningParticipation and #DEI through consulting are why I started Cuvette Collective. I love my career! #ScienceEducation #TeacherAppreciation #MONETResearchProgram

Is anyone aware of an instrument with evidence of validity or the development of such an instrument in the literature for STEM Outreach? I'd really appreciate any resources that could be provided.

In 2018, I was a first-year graduate student in awe that the university paid for me to fly elsewhere to present research at a conference. My first time presenting research, I was eager to share with the audience that, after reading several studies on predicting *which* students are at risk of failing a chemistry course, I developed a means to examine *how* these students performed relative to their peers on each topic covered throughout the curriculum. This information could help educators (myself included) to be more aware of the topics wherein their students may inequitably struggle and allow us to develop resources to support those students, specifically. I concluded my talk, asked for questions, and the first person I chose asked "When did we lose the power to control who would or would not succeed as scientists?" And while the talk was generally well received, this question reflected the perspective of someone who seemed against changing how we teach and assess to ensure students predicted to fail the course have access to resources designed to support their success. I never quite understood why until a few weeks ago, when I learned that **understanding is frame dependent** ♥️ Join me and @CuvetteOrg in this exploration of how to frame a message: cuvettecollective.org/post/f… #impactofframing

Grad students: holiday break is upon us. There are a ton of self-righteous jerks who will try to convince you to work yourself to the bone because you have to. Those people are liars. You can succeed in academia and also rest. Nothing is worth sacrificing your rest.
Grad Students: Holiday break is upon us. Have you created a daily writing schedule or are you planning to lounge around in PJs under the auspices of self-care? The academic job market comes down to hairline differences between candidates, similar to sports. I’d choose wisely.
